A Queensland father tragically passed away after experiencing a ‘massive brain bleed’ during his vacation in Bali. Marcus Filleul, originally from New Zealand but residing in Queensland since 2013, was on holiday on the Indonesian island when the incident occurred. Doctors discovered a tumor last week and he underwent emergency surgery at BIMC Hospital in Kuta, located in the south of Bali.
Loved ones and acquaintances made fervent efforts to gather funds for Mr. Filleul’s repatriation and treatment in Australia. Facing the absence of insurance coverage and the daunting prospect of paying $10,000 per day for hospital expenses in Bali, they sought to bring him home. However, Mr. Filleul tragically succumbed on Monday morning, as confirmed by his friend Dayle Hart, who initiated the GoFundMe campaign aimed at financing his return.

Before his family could gather funds to transport him back to Queensland, he passed away on Monday morning.
“He fought bravely until the very end, and the family deeply appreciates the precious time they had with him this past week,” Ms. Hart expressed. She continued, “Plans are underway to bring Marcus back to QLD. Thank you all for your kindness and generous contributions.”
Another friend fondly described Mr. Filleul as a ‘legend’, expressing, “I treasure our friendship and the adventures we shared, despite their brevity. I am thankful for the time spent with you during your final days, and I wish you eternal happiness.”
