Ivanka Trump became emotional in a rare public display of vulnerability as she reflected on the women who shaped her life.
The 44-year-old asked for a tissue while speaking about her mother and maternal grandmother during an interview on the “Diary of a CEO” podcast. She also teared up at other moments throughout the 90-minute conversation, including when discussing her husband Jared Kushner’s battle with thyroid cancer and recalling how she watched her father being shot in Butler, Pennsylvania, in “real time” alongside two of her children.
Her most heartfelt moment came as she shared her sadness that her three children — Arabella, Joseph, and Theo — will never have the chance to know their grandmother, Ivana Trump.

She also shared her gratitude that her grandmother — Ivana Trump’s mother, Marie Zelníčková — lives with them in Florida. Affectionately known as “Babi,” Trump said her grandmother helped raise her and her brothers, Don Jr. and Eric, when they were young.
“My grandmother cooked every meal,” she said. “She’s unbelievably nurturing.”
