“Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet: A Hollywood Power Couple’s Unforeseen Split”

In January 2022, the announcement of Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet’s separation sent shockwaves through the entertainment world, leaving fans and media worldwide surprised. The couple, known for their influential status in Hollywood, had been together for nearly 16 years and were parents to two remarkable children: 15-year-old daughter Lola Iolani Momoa and 13-year-old son Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha, affectionately known as Wolf.

Both Momoa and Bonet have left significant imprints in the acting realm. Bonet, who became a popular figure during the 1980s and 1990s, gained fame with her role in “The Cosby Show.”

Momoa, an accomplished actor and filmmaker, rose to prominence in the late 1990s with his debut in the action-drama series “Baywatch Hawaii,” where he remained until 2001. His portrayal of Khal Drogo in the initial two seasons of “Game of Thrones” further propelled his career, making him a prominent figure in the industry and contributing to the success of the show’s cast members.

Presently, Jason Momoa, a native of Honolulu with Hawaiian and Samoan heritage, is widely recognized for his portrayal of Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe. The anticipation for his return as the aquatic superhero intensifies with the upcoming release of “Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom,” the sequel to his first solo Aquaman film, scheduled for 2023. Additionally, Momoa achieved even greater success through his involvement in the film “Dune.” His star power continues to soar as he gears up to star alongside Vin Diesel in the highly-awaited 10th installment of the “Fast & Furious” series, titled “Fast X.”

Despite the separation of Momoa and Lisa Bonet, they remain dedicated to co-parenting their children. Their cherished offspring, a 15-year-old daughter named Lola, and a son known affectionately as Wolf, have managed to stay away from the public eye, and Momoa has expressed his desire to preserve their privacy, particularly when it concerns Lola.

“From Island to Stardom: Jason Momoa’s Journey to Becoming a Hollywood Icon”

Born on August 1, 1979, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Jason Momoa’s life began with the backdrop of creativity, raised by his artistic parents as an only child. While still a baby, fate took him to Iowa, where he spent his early years until completing high school. Following his graduation, he returned to his Hawaiian roots and enrolled at the University of Hawaii.

At this point, it seemed like Momoa’s path would lead to a simple island life. However, destiny had different plans for him during his late teens. At the age of 19, he took a bold step and auditioned for the TV series “Baywatch Hawaii,” impressing casting agents and securing the role of Jason Ioane, a part he portrayed from 1999 to 2001. The show featured other notable stars like David Hasselhoff, Brooke Burns, and Stacy Kamano.

Building on his early success, Momoa ventured further into the entertainment industry, making appearances in “Stargate: Atlantis” and “Johnson Family Vacation” during the early 2000s. Additionally, he starred in the comedy-drama TV series “The Game,” sharing the screen with Tia Mowry and Pooch Hall.

However, it was during the 2010s and 2020s that Momoa’s star truly ascended. Kicking off the decade, he secured the titular role in the 2011 film “Conan the Barbarian,” featuring Rose McGowan and Ron Perlman. This marked a turning point in his career, setting him on the path to becoming the Hollywood icon he is today.

Momoa’s Star Ascends: From “Game of Thrones” to Aquaman

Momoa’s breakthrough came with his portrayal of Khal Drogo in the widely acclaimed HBO fantasy drama television series “Game of Thrones.” Airing from 2011 to 2019, the show became a global sensation, captivating audiences with its intricate plot twists and turns. Based on George R. R. Martin’s fantasy novels, the series was filmed in the United Kingdom and garnered numerous awards and accolades during its run.

Despite the final season facing criticism from fans and critics, “Game of Thrones” remains celebrated for its brilliance, especially in its earlier seasons, for crafting an enthralling and fantastical world. Many of its cast members went on to achieve great success in their careers, while some chose to shift their focus towards personal endeavors. Momoa’s stint on the show, spanning from 2011 to 2012, undeniably left a lasting impact on both the series and his career.

In 2014, Momoa demonstrated his versatility by taking on the role of director and co-writer for the drama thriller film “Road to Paloma,” where he also starred alongside his then-partner, Bonet.

Around the same time, Momoa’s star continued to rise as he secured the role of the iconic superhero Aquaman. He made a memorable debut as Aquaman in the 2016 film “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Following this, in late 2018, Momoa headlined the titular character in “Aquaman,” further solidifying his position as a leading figure in the DC Extended Universe. With the success of the first film, a sequel is eagerly anticipated for release in 2023, promising even more aquatic adventures for Momoa’s beloved character.

Love’s Journey: Momoa and Bonet’s Endearing Relationship

Throughout his busy career, Jason Momoa has also cherished moments to build a family and find love. His connection with his ex, Lisa Bonet, spans years of admiration and affection. Their paths crossed in 2004, but Momoa had been enamored with Bonet since the days he first saw her on “The Cosby Show.” In an interview with James Corden, Momoa revealed that seeing her in person was an instant love-struck moment.

Although they met in 2004, their marriage didn’t take place until October 2017. Before tying the knot, they were already proud parents to Lola, born in July 2007, and Wolf, born in December 2008. Bonet had a daughter, actress Zoë Kravitz, from her previous marriage to actor and musician Lenny Kravitz in 1988.

While Bonet’s feelings might not have mirrored Momoa’s love at first sight, she shared with Porter Magazine that their relationship ignited from the very day they met. In a 2018 interview, she described the moment as one of instantaneous and powerful love, and Momoa proved himself to be a steadfast partner, embracing their connection without hesitation. As she recalled, he swept her off her feet, quite literally, in a charming and gallant manner.

With Momoa’s captivating looks and magnetic charm, it’s no wonder Bonet was captivated by his presence. The couple officially tied the knot in early October 2017, opting for an intimate ceremony at their Topanga, California home, surrounded by close friends and family. Adding a touch of cultural significance, a traditional Māori haka was performed in their honor during the wedding. However, their hearts had long recognized the depth of their love well before the formal celebration.

A Love Honored Beyond Weddings: Momoa and Bonet’s Unexpected Split

In the same year, Momoa candidly expressed in an Entertainment Tonight interview that, for him, the wedding was merely a formality, as he felt he had been married to Bonet since the first moment they met. Reflecting on their bond, he said, “You know what, I’ve been married to my wife for 12 years. It’s just a gathering of our families and celebrating our love.”

Hence, it was a profound shock when the couple announced their separation after 17 years together, with five years of marriage. In January 2022, Momoa and Bonet released a joint statement, aiming to share their decision with dignity and honesty. As reported by Cosmopolitan, their heartfelt statement touched on the transformative nature of their journey and the evolution of their love:

“We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times… A revolution is unfolding, and our family is of no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring. And so, We share our Family news, That we are parting ways in marriage. We share this not because we think it’s newsworthy, But so that as we go about our lives, we may do so with dignity and honesty. The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other to be who we are learning to become…”

People close to the couple revealed that tension had been building for some time, ultimately arising from them being in different phases of their careers. As a source shared with PEOPLE, a few years ago, Jason struggled to find work, but now his career is flourishing, and he is eager to keep working as much as he can. This divergence in their professional journeys contributed to the challenges they faced.

While there were previous rumors that the couple had since reconciled and chose to work on their marriage, Page Six reported that this was not the case. “We’re not back together,” Momoa said. “We’re family… We have two beautiful children together.”

It’s alleged that Momoa moved on as he and Bonet are officially separated. In May 2022, PEOPLE reported that multiple sources said that Momoa had started dating Eiza González.

González is a Mexican actress and singer who first found fame when she was just a teenager. Her career started on a high as she received recognition for her debut role as Lola Valente in the Mexican musical telenovela “Lola, érase una vez,” which aired from 2007 to 2008. She then went on to star in the leading role of Clara Molina on the teen drama series “Sueña conmigo.”

Moving forward, González continued to gain more recognition for her work in the horror series “From Dusk till Dawn: The Series,” as well as the action crime film “Baby Driver.” She was recently in the 2019 film “Hobbs & Shaw” and the 2021 film “Godzilla vs. Kong.”

According to PEOPLE, Momoa had been spotted at the premiere of González’s movie “Ambulance,” although the two did not walk the red carpet together. “They are dating,” a source said. “He cares about her. He’s in a great place.” Another source added, “They’re both busy with work but are having fun together. It’s nothing serious yet.”

A source told Entertainment Tonight that the actors started out as friends, but it seemed like there was something more. “Jason and Eiza started as friends, but always had an underlying chemistry,” the source said. “They are seeing each other and things are casual right now. They’re having a good time.”

Even though it seems like Momoa may be moving on, he still has shown great compassion toward his ex. Momoa and Bonet have plans to keep co-parenting and respecting one another in the years to come. In a since-deleted Instagram post, Momoa announced the split, emphasizing that they still love and care for one another.

Despite the split, Momoa has made it clear that he intends to stay in his kids’ lives and also that he thoroughly enjoys being a father. His Instagram is filled with loving pictures of him and his children, whom he called his “greatest work of art.”

“I want to be remembered as, I hope, an amazing husband and a great father,” he said.

While Momoa is close to both of his children, his bond with daughter Lola, who has been seen with at public events many times, is almost too precious to describe.

Just one look at Lola, and it’s clear to see she’s inherited her parents’ Hollywood star looks. Perhaps that’s why she’s starting to show interest in following in their footsteps. But Momoa isn’t too keen on those plans. He told Entertainment Tonight, “Aw man, one of them wants to do it and I’m not a fan.”

Momoa continued:

“I don’t know. I’ll try my damnedest to keep ’em out of it. I love storytelling, I love theatrical things, I like directing and filmmaking, but I just want them to, you know, really to go for other things.”

Even though Momoa has shown that he wants his kids to live out their dreams, he still has some apprehensions. The protective side of this father showed when he explained the issue further.

“If they (really) want to, maybe,” he said, adding, “But I don’t want them to get into acting. It’s very hard on people and I don’t want them to have that pressure. I’m tough, I can handle it, but I wouldn’t want to put someone I love (through) that.”

Momoa’s “Sweet Girl” co-star Isabela Merced also weighed in on how hard the entertainment industry can be. She explained, “There’s a lot of, like, extra stuff that comes with acting that you’re like, ‘I didn’t sign up for this!’ But you love it, so you gotta do it.”

Momoa’s protective side had also come out during his separation from Bonet, as shown in an Instagram post, which he captioned: “Mahalo to the fans and press for being generous and giving us space for the children it’s hard enough separating in the public eye. We appreciate the continued privacy through these times aloha j.”

Luckily for Momoa, Lola is still too young to branch out on her own into the film industry. Until then, the involved parent is enjoying spending time with his kids in activities such as joining social causes, going to concerts and attending movie premieres. While Lola already looks the part at all the glam Hollywood events, she’ll have to wait a little longer – and somehow get her dad’s blessing! – before making her Tinseltown debut.
