June Rivas was told to come to work looking “clean and pressed”, which doesn’t sound too outrageous. Here’s what June (usually) wore.
Clean? Yep. Pressed? Definitely. But for some reason, June’s boss told her that ponytails and headscarves were “unprofessional”. June tried to fight her case, but her boss issued a new dress code: no straps, no hats, no sandals, no cleavage, no lace, and absolutely no “cultural head wraps”.
So June decided to play to her boss’ ridiculous rules and toed the line — but maybe not in the way her senior expected. She wore a different cosplay outfit to work every day.
There was nothing in that dress code memo about wings, wigs, or capes, was there?
Taking to Facebook to vent her frustrations, June wrote: “I have come to work each day in an outfit that fits the guidelines she laid out…. just… not QUITE the way she expected.”
Not a “cultural head wrap” in sight. But quite a lot of spandex.
Oh, and all June’s favorite sci-fi and superhero characters, of course.
According to her post, June has since reported her boss to the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and filed a harassment complaint.
And we seriously hope she keeps this business-cosplay style going, because it’s awesome.
Talk about sticking it to the man (or, bossy, petty woman).
Even Bob’s Burgers characters made an appearance, to the delight of the 19,000 people who’ve liked June’s post.
The moral of the story? Don’t tell people they look “unprofessional” when they’re wearing a suit, because this is what’ll happen.
