Two tourists were assaulted in Times Square Monday during the peak holiday season, with one narrowly avoiding serious injury thanks to his thick winter coat, authorities said.
The suspects, allegedly led by 43-year-old Robert Kerri, attacked the pair while they waited for a tour bus near 42nd Street and Eighth Avenue around 3:50 p.m., the NYPD reported.
A 47-year-old man was stabbed in the torso but was protected by his coat amid the frigid temperatures, while a 44-year-old woman was slapped in the face, according to police and sources.

Robert Kerri, 43, was arrested Monday for allegedly stabbing a man in the chest and slapping a woman in the face near Times Square in Manhattan.
The slap knocked the woman to the ground, sources said. Both victims sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment. It is unclear whether they knew each other.
Kerri was taken into custody shortly after the incident and faces two counts of assault and two counts of harassment, authorities reported.
