It was all smiles and family moments—until everything changed.
On Tuesday, Nicole Kidman officially filed for divorce from Keith Urban after 19 years of marriage. Rumors of their split, however, began circulating as early as Monday, and now fresh details about what went wrong are emerging.
“Their lives were heading in different directions, and when he quietly set up his own place, it felt like the writing was on the wall,” a source told People, referring to the 57-year-old country singer moving out of their family home.

“Within their circles, it hasn’t been a secret that Keith and Nicole have been living separately for some time,” the insider added. “Those close to Keith felt the split was somewhat inevitable.”
The source also revealed that “Nicole’s sister, Antonia, has been a rock, and the entire Kidman family has come together to support one another.”

According to TMZ, those close to the estranged couple reportedly believe Urban may be involved with a new woman.
The pair, who married in 2006, share two daughters: Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14.
“All the signs point to the fact that Keith is seeing someone else. Nicole doesn’t dispute it, but she’s still in shock over it,” multiple sources told the outlet.

“It’s all over Nashville,” a source close to Nicole Kidman revealed.
“Sometimes relationships just run their course,” another source told Page Six on Monday, noting that Kidman did not want the split and had tried to save their marriage.
Insiders also claim the couple has been living separately “since the beginning of summer.”

According to TMZ, Kidman has been caring for their two children while “holding the family together through this difficult time” since Urban moved out. The outlet also reported that the exes have already worked out a parenting plan.
Under the arrangement, their daughters are expected to spend 306 days with their mother and 59 days with their father, with all major decisions regarding the girls to be made jointly.
So far, neither Kidman nor Urban has publicly commented on their marital status.

The couple was last seen together publicly on June 20, 2025, at a FIFA Club World Cup match in Nashville.
A few days later, Kidman commemorated their 19th wedding anniversary with a heartfelt Instagram post. The Big Little Lies star shared a black-and-white photo of the two cuddling, captioning it, “Happy Anniversary Baby.”

In July, shortly after their split became known, Urban abruptly ended a radio interview when asked a personal question about his wife.
The Grammy-winning singer was appearing on Australia’s Mix 102.3 Hayley & Max in the Morning when hosts Hayley Pearson and Max Burford asked him about watching Kidman in on-screen love scenes.
“What does Keith Urban think when he sees his beautiful wife with beautiful younger men, like Zac Efron, in these love scenes on TV and radio?” Burford asked—prompting Urban to go silent and end the call.
“What just happened here?” Burford asked as a producer said, “He’s disconnected from Zoom.”
“I think his team hung up on us because they didn’t want us to ask that question,” the producer noted. “He’s gone, see you, Keith.”
Pearson said she believed they “upset” Urban because he “doesn’t like the personal stuff.”

Contrary to earlier reports, a source told People that Urban did not hang up during the radio interview.
“Keith did not hang up, period,” the insider said. “He doesn’t host his Zoom interviews. This is a complete nothingburger.” The source added that Urban is a “very easygoing” interviewee and had no issue with the hosts’ question.
Kidman recently starred alongside Zac Efron, 37, in Netflix’s 2024 rom-com A Family Affair. She plays a writer who begins a romantic relationship with a young actor (Efron) whom her daughter (Joey King) works for.

When A Family Affair was released, Kidman explained that she felt at ease filming intimate scenes with High School Musical star Zac Efron.
“It’s really helpful when you’re doing this sort of work together that you’ve already got a history together, because it’s easy,” she said. “You’re not working to create a history. So I’m not like, ‘Can I touch you?’ I feel incredibly trusting of Zac.”
In April 2024, Urban honored Kidman at the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala, recalling in his speech how his past struggles with addiction nearly jeopardized their relationship.

Reflecting on the early years of their marriage, Urban admitted, “We got married in June 2006, and barely four months in, my addictions—which I’d done really nothing about—blew our marriage to smithereens.”
“And I went into the Betty Ford Center for three months. Four months into a marriage, I’m in rehab for three months,” he continued. “I had no idea what was going to happen to us. And if you want to see what love in action really looks like, give that a whirl.”
“Nic pushed through every negative voice, I’m sure even some of her own, and she chose love,” Urban added. “And here we are tonight, 18 years later.”

Nicole Kidman wiped away tears as she listened to her husband’s speech.
“That’s the thing about Nic—she loves life,” Urban said. “I’ve actually never met anyone who has such a passion for being alive. She knows the importance of expressing feelings, as well. I wasn’t raised like this at all, so our girls are very lucky to be learning from you, baby. I’m learning too.”
