Senator Ted Cruz defended Sydney Sweeney and her American Eagle jeans commercial after some left-leaning TikTok users accused the ad of containing “Nazi propaganda.”
Responding to The Post’s post on X, Cruz (R-Texas) commented, “Wow. Now the far Left is targeting attractive women.”
He added, “I’m sure that strategy will be very popular with voters…”
Senator Ted Cruz arrived at Lackland Air Force Base on July 11, 2025.
Sweeney faced backlash from critics over an ad in which she wore a pair of American Eagle jeans and a denim jacket.
In the commercial, she says, “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color.”
“My jeans are blue,” Sweeney says in the ad, as she flashes her blue eyes.
Some social media users took issue with the play on words between “jeans” and “genes,” accusing the Euphoria actress of promoting what they described as “Nazi propaganda.”
“I thought it was gonna be, like, kinda bad, but wow. That’s gonna be in history books,” one TikTok user commented.
Another wrote, “I’ll be the friend who’s too woke, but those Sydney Sweeney American Eagle ads are weird. Like, fascist weird. Like Nazi propaganda weird.”
Many social media users backed Cruz’s defense of Sweeney, criticizing the backlash the actress faced over the commercial.
“They dared to mention ‘gene,’ which is apparently off-limits to progressives,” one user commented.
Another added, “And here I thought they were trying to appeal to young male voters—this is the worst strategy.”
A third chimed in, “Jealousy is a nasty trait!”
Sydney Sweeney starred in a longer promotional video for American Eagle that plays on the same pun about her family’s “jeans.”
“I’m not here to tell you to buy American Eagle jeans. And I definitely won’t say they’re the most comfortable jeans I’ve ever worn, or that they make your butt look amazing. Why would I need to do that?” she says in the 30-second spot.
“But if you said you want to buy the jeans, I’m not going to stop you. Just to be clear, this isn’t me telling you to buy American Eagle jeans,” she adds as the text “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans” appears on screen, accompanied by a male voiceover repeating the phrase.
Senator Ted Cruz was seen walking on Capitol Hill on July 29, 2025.
The provocative video spot turned the teen retailer into the newest “meme stock,” drawing investor attention.
Following the launch of the marketing campaign featuring the Euphoria star wearing a denim jacket over a bare torso, the company’s shares surged more than 10%, closing up 4.2% on Thursday.
However, the brief buying frenzy ended with the stock dropping 4.6% by Tuesday afternoon.
