The Unyielding Commitment to Family Values and Authenticity: Chip and Joanna’s Remarkable Castle Renovation

At the heart of Chip and Joanna’s unparalleled success lies their unwavering dedication to family values and authenticity. Their profound love for their five children serves as the driving force behind their quest to create homes that nurture love, warmth, and togetherness. Their design aesthetic beautifully blends rustic charm, farmhouse elements, and modern simplicity. Their signature style encompasses shiplap walls, open floor plans, neutral color palettes, and carefully selected antique pieces that infuse character into every space.

In 2022, the couple achieved a significant milestone by completing a truly exceptional project they had been working on since 2019—an awe-inspiring castle! When Chip and Joanna acquired the 130-year-old property, known as the Cottonland Castle, it was in a woeful state. Abandoned by two owners since 1890, the pair invested tremendous effort in renovating almost every inch of the four-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom home situated in Waco, Texas. This captivating journey was documented in the six-episode mini-series, “Fixer Upper: The Castle.”

Nestled on over 1.5 acres of land, the castle’s exterior showcases all the quintessential features of a regal fortress, including stone walls, balconies, and even a turret!

“As we embarked on this unprecedented renovation, one thing became clear: this fixer-upper is unlike any other we’ve tackled before,” Joanna wrote in a heartfelt blog post. “Despite the cracks in the masonry, the decaying floorboards, and the encroaching wilderness in the backyard, Chip had an unshakeable conviction, and I came to see it too. Beyond the surface flaws, lies an abundance of beauty waiting to be unveiled in this ancient castle.”

Exclusive Castle Tours and Auction: Chip and Joanna’s Remarkable Cottonland Castle

After completing their extensive work on the castle in 2022, Chip and Joanna Gaines opened its doors to eager fans, offering exclusive tours of the property for a fee of $50 per person. Collaborating with Concierge Auctions, they have now set the dates for the highly anticipated auction, which will take place from July 20 to July 27, 2023.

According to Concierge Auctions, the castle underwent meticulous renovations using top-of-the-line materials, including Honduran mahogany paneling, Caen stones imported from France, and exquisite Carrara marble from Italy. While certain elements, like the wood floors in the master bedroom, were preserved, Chip and Joanna also reimagined various spaces within the castle. For example, they relocated the original basement kitchen to the main floor, seamlessly blending the restored rustic features with modern functionality throughout the home. Additionally, a stunning butler’s pantry was installed, featuring a fireplace and double wall ovens.

Cottonland Castle boasts a total of seven fireplaces, including one in the master bedroom, creating an atmosphere of warmth and elegance. The castle’s oversized diamond-paned windows offer breathtaking views and include built-in seating. The original floor paneling adds to the timeless charm of the space. Among the other beautifully restored rooms are a drawing room, a dining room capable of comfortably accommodating ten guests, a conservatory, a library, and a game room. The basement has been transformed into a welcoming family area, complete with a guest room, additional bathroom, and a laundry room.

Notably, the property has received recognition as a historical landmark from the Texas Historical Commission, highlighting its rich heritage.

Concierge Auctions has not set a minimum price for the auction, providing an opportunity for potential buyers to determine the value. However, a bidder is required to submit a deposit of $100,000 in order to participate and potentially acquire this extraordinary property.
