All Raju the elephant knew in his 50 years of life was pain and suffering caused by humans. But another group of humans would soon change all of that.

This is Raju. He lived in India where he would survive off of the trash and whatever tourists happened to give him.

But after 50 years of abuse and torture, a midnight rescue would free Raju from his lifetime of pain.

This is when the North London-based charity Wildlife SOS moved in. This rescue put Raju in tears.

Here he is crying at the time of the rescue.

So sad to see. ?

The charity’s U.K. spokeswoman Pooja Binepal said they were shocked to see the elephant crying. “It was so incredibly emotional for all of us. We knew in our hearts he realized he was being freed.”

They were worried that Raju’s owner might flee the scene. He even tried to prevent the rescue by yelling commands to try and scare Raju.

But Wildlife SOS didn’t give up. “We stood our ground and refused to back down — and as we did so, tears began to roll down Raju’s face.”

Raju stepped out of the truck one minute past midnight on July 4th to freedom.

He would now spend the rest of his life free from pain and agony.

Many thanks to Wildlife SOS for what they did for Raju. Such a sad story but with a tremendous ending.
