The documents disclose an amendment made in 2016, which removed Priscilla as a co-trustee and instead named Riley Keough and Lisa Marie’s late son, Benjamin Keough. Priscilla contends that the 2016 amendment is questionable, and in January 2023, she filed a petition raising concerns about its authenticity and validity. The dispute over the rightful ownership of Graceland continues to unfold in court.
Petition Challenging Will Authenticity Resolved Out of Court
According to BBC, Priscilla lodged a petition questioning the authenticity of the will, claiming that she had not received the amended version as required prior to Lisa Marie’s passing. She further asserted that her name was misspelled, and Lisa Marie’s signatures appeared inconsistent with her usual style, prompting her to take legal action. The situation between Keough and Priscilla was described by Entertainment Tonight as tense and heartbreaking.
“Priscilla firmly believes in the strength of her case and expects a favorable outcome in court. While Riley and Priscilla are not currently communicating directly, their respective legal representatives are in contact,” the outlet reported.
As both parties prepared for court proceedings, Keough expressed a preference for resolving the matter privately. Eventually, on May 18, 2023, Priscilla and Keough reached an agreement, settling the dispute outside of court.
TMZ reports that Priscilla has agreed to a significant settlement, opting to drop her legal pursuit and bring closure to the dispute with her granddaughter. However, one specific request was denied – her wish to be buried beside Elvis at Graceland, whom she affectionately refers to as “the love of my life” on multiple occasions.
“While I have no intention of departing anytime soon, it is the heartfelt desire of my family and myself to be laid to rest alongside my daughter and the love of my life when the time eventually comes. We are grateful for the unwavering support of our fans,” Priscilla expressed to the outlet.
Considerations for Denying Priscilla’s Burial Request at Graceland
The decision to deny Priscilla’s request may have been influenced by the existing layout of burials at Graceland. Elvis’s grave is flanked by his father on the left and his mother, Gladys Presley, on the right. Accommodating Priscilla’s wish would have required the removal of one of these graves, potentially factoring into the decision.
Regarding the settlement, Priscilla provided a statement to PEOPLE, confirming that an agreement had been reached between both parties, signaling their readiness to put the matter to rest.
“To clarify, my family has resolved any confusion surrounding our plea to the court and our request for document interpretation following the untimely passing of my daughter, Lisa Marie. While some media outlets referred to it as a lawsuit, I want to emphasize that we never filed any lawsuit against my beloved granddaughter,” she stated.
In the meantime, Riley’s lawyer, Justin Gold, shared with Entertainment Tonight, “Riley is thrilled. She is an extraordinary woman, and her future looks promising.”
