Mind control has always been feared by the general population, but at the same time, the idea has always been disregarded and dubbed as something that only exists in science fiction. Now, science fiction is beginning to seem a little more like science fact. The United States and Europe have both been working on two projects, the United State’s U.S BRAIN project and Europe’s Human Brain Project. These projects are focused on harnessing mind control techniques without our knowledge or permission by inserting a brain-computer interface into gadgets such as phones or computers, then using magnetic manipulation to plant images inside of our heads that weren’t originally there. Billions of dollars of tax-payer’s money is being spent to discover ways to control the general population.
Skeptics argue that our brain has a natural protection from attacks originating from outside of our mind, but neuroscientists have recently discovered that the mind’s defense system can be shut off by magnetic impulses. Within a moment, all our awareness could be shut off without our consent, and when it’s flicked back on, we wouldn’t realize anything had happened to us. What follows the knowledge of how to shut down a brain, is the knowledge of how to manipulate the brain, or even extract thoughts.
A study conducted at the George Washington University in Washington D.C by Mohamad Koubeissi tapped into the potential of using machinery to momentarily deactivate the brain. The test subject, who was a woman, had suffered from epilepsy her whole life, so Mohamad Koubeissi and his team used electrodes to pinpoint where her seizures were originating from. Once an electrode was positioned on her untouched claustrum (which had never been stimulated before) and the team sent electricity through her brain, she fell unconscious. Her brain stopped processing information, her breathing slowed, and she stared into space with a blank expression. Once the simulation ended and she regained consciousness, but had no memory of what had taken place.
Anil Seth, a professor of neuroscience, urged Mohamad Koubeissi not to make major assumptions after testing one person who already had a brain dysfunction, but Koubeissi and his crew went the extra mile to prove that their experiment was affecting their test subject’s consciousness and not just her ability to speak and move by making her snap her fingers before the simulation began. She would have discontinued moving if the simulation altered her ability to move or speak.
Koubeissi drew the conclusion that just like a piece of machinery, a consciousness can be built and torn down, and it all revolves around the claustrum, an irregular collection of neurons that is suspected to be inside of the brain of all mammals.
Scientists continue to press on with their studies trying to prove that the human body can work like a machine. They assume that there is a conductor somewhere in our minds that can be harnessed and used for mind control. If the conductor is a force coming from within ourselves, then brain hackers have the advantage, but if it comes from some other force outside of our bodies, then we’re safe from any mental attacks.
