Sicily Kolbeck was at the age of 12 when her and her father started a very big project for building together a DIY house. Unfortunately, her father passed away in a tragic car accident. Sicily decided to go on with the project and realize her father’s wish.
Since she is just 12 years-old, Sicily has taken a decision to build a cut down size home to make it as a part of a school project.
She began her steps by launching fundraise on the Internet .Just in less than a month; Sicily has extended the amount of $1,500.
Her father, Dane Bolbek worked as a sailor and he was interested in woodworking. They called their new project “La Petite Maison.”
While they were building the new mini house, her father died in a car accident unexpectedly. Because of that, she had no interest to carry on the project.
However, her father’s friends and one of them was a professional homebuilder helped her to go back and continue the project.
She wanted to tribute the project for her father.
All the members of society joined Sicily in her home-building project.
Her DIY mini home was finished in one year and half.
Her home was given too much attention. She traveled with it to New Orleans in order to give a speech in a TEDYYouth conference where she gave a speech to other teenagers about her story.
“Sometimes when people get a hard knock, they stay down. I didn’t. That’s my claim to fame,” she writes. “I also wanted to show that when I was handed lemons, I not only made lemonade. I made a lemon cake. And I ate it. And it was delicious.”
