Megyn Kelly criticized Sydney Sweeney’s viral silver corset dress, calling the sheer design inappropriate.
“I object to this,” the 54-year-old conservative commentator said on her talk show Thursday. “I disapprove of the dress because it’s completely see-through.”
Kelly noted that the Christian Cowan gown, worn by Sweeney at Variety’s Power of Women event on Wednesday, left little to the imagination, saying she could “see [Sweeney’s] entire” chest.
The political commentator said she “objects” to and “disapproves” of the Christian Cowan-designed gown.
While acknowledging the 28-year-old actress’s “spectacular” figure, Kelly likened Sweeney to Kim Kardashian, saying she “overshares” and diminishes the allure of mystery.
“She takes away the thing that is the sexiest — every guy’s hope to be the one who actually sees them for real — by not leaving enough to the imagination,” Kelly explained.
Despite her criticism, the journalist clarified that she remains “a Sydney Sweeney fan.”

While calling Sweeney’s figure “spectacular,” Kelly accused the actress of “oversharing.”
The “Megyn Kelly Show” host suggested that the “very young” Emmy nominee may have been “misled” into choosing the attention-grabbing Christian Cowan design.
“I guarantee you, somebody brought the dress to her and said, ‘Now we’ll take it next level,’” Kelly said. “She trusted the wrong person, and before you knew it, we had all seen it.”
Kelly described the look as a “rare misstep,” noting that she has previously defended Sweeney — most recently after the actress faced backlash for her American Eagle “Great Jeans” campaign.
Kelly speculated that Sweeney may have been “misled” into wearing the sheer gown and quipped that she “draws the line at areola.”
A representative for Sweeney did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Meanwhile, the actress’s look — which she wore while delivering a speech about being “underestimated” — sparked mixed reactions online.
Some social media users criticized the outfit, with one commenting that it didn’t “empower but overpower,” and another writing, “She’s wearing a dress that puts her body on display more than her message.”
The journalist described the much-discussed outfit as a “rare misstep.”
The Emmy nominee has yet to comment on the backlash surrounding her outfit.
However, many of Sweeney’s fans have come to her defense.
Though she hasn’t publicly addressed the criticism, the Anyone But You star shared several photos of herself in the gown on Instagram Thursday — including red carpet shots and mirror selfies.
“The power of women,” the Euphoria actress captioned the post.
Celebrities such as Katy Perry, AJ McLean, and Jessie James Decker praised the look in the comments, while fans called it “absolutely beautiful,” “stunning,” and “gorgeous.”
