Melissa Gilbert and Melissa Sue Anderson, beloved for their roles as sisters on Little House on the Prairie, are forging a new chapter in their friendship.

The actresses reunited over the weekend, putting to rest a decades-long feud that has lingered since their time on the NBC drama series.

Gilbert, 61, and Anderson, 63, shared a backstage group photo at Gilbert’s off-Broadway show, Pen Pals, posting it on Instagram on Saturday to commemorate the moment.

Melissa Gilbert expressed her joy over reconnecting with her Little House on the Prairie co-star Melissa Sue Anderson, saying she’s “so happy” that Anderson is “back in my life.” The former co-stars, who played sisters Laura and Mary Ingalls on the iconic NBC series, share “such an important history that no one else on earth truly understands,” Gilbert added.

“Just us Ingalls girls,” she wrote. “The best part is, the past is now just that, and we can move forward as the sisters/friends we always wanted to be. What a wonderful Christmas gift.”

Gilbert and Anderson first captured audiences as sisters on Little House on the Prairie, which aired from 1974 to 1983, leaving a lasting legacy of family, friendship, and heartfelt storytelling.

Melissa Gilbert (left) and Melissa Sue Anderson (right) starred as sisters Laura and Mary Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie, but their relationship off-camera was sometimes tense.

In a past interview, Gilbert admitted that Anderson “was the boss of me” during filming.

“She took that absolutely seriously. She was two years older than me, which, you know, when you’re nine and 11 is a big deal … She was tough,” Gilbert explained. “I mean both off and on camera, but on camera especially.”

The beloved cast of Little House on the Prairie brought the Ingalls family to life, but not every scene was easy for the young stars. Gilbert recalled a memorable moment from one of the first episodes:

“One of the first episodes … when Ma comes home with fabric and I reach out to touch it, Melissa whacked me so hard and you can see [where] I almost started to laugh and you can see the whole spectrum of emotion on my face,” she said.

Little House on the Prairie chronicled the lives of the Ingalls family on a Minnesota farm in the 1800s. The series also starred Michael Landon, Karen Grassle, Lindsay and Sidney Greenbush, Dean Butler, and Richard Bull.
