Discovering their recently adopted pit bull nibbling near their newborn’s crib in the dark hours, they examined the baby more closely and burst into tears upon realizing the dog’s actions.
One family, The Robinsons, had a 6-year-old son, and when the wife ended up being pregnant with their second child, they decided to move to a bigger house in a remote area where they wanted to build a farm. As they lived in a small apartment which they rented before getting the house, they weren’t allowed to keep a pet at home, but now that they had their own place, they desperately wanted to get a dog.
Wanting to adopt a canine from a shelter, they visited some and as they were hearing all those stories of how each of the animals ended up there, they stumbled upon a shy Pit Bull named Benson.
Regrettably, Benson’s journey was far from easy. Enduring years of involvement in dogfighting, he was eventually abandoned on the streets. When discovered by volunteers, he had already developed a deep mistrust of humans, hesitant even to raise his head. Although a family adopted him from the shelter, his joy proved fleeting, lasting only two weeks. The family chose to part ways, deeming him unfriendly
Upon learning about Benson’s difficult past, Mrs. Robinson recognized the need to offer him a chance at a better life. After adopting him, despite his initial peculiar behavior, he quickly formed a bond with the family’s son, Mathias.
When the newborn arrived, Benson showered the baby with love and affection. However, one night, the family was startled by loud barking emanating from the baby’s room. Racing to investigate, they were alarmed to find Benson gnawing at the crib rails. Initially fearing the worst, they thought he might pose a threat to the infant. To their relief, they soon realized Benson was attempting to alert them to a critical situation – the baby had stopped breathing, and Benson was desperately trying to get their attention.
Speeding to the hospital, they received a sobering revelation: had Benson not signaled the baby’s distress, a tragic outcome was imminent. Fortunately, that scenario was averted.
When Mrs. Robinson rescued Benson from the shelter, she never anticipated that he would reciprocate by saving her child’s life.
