Getting lost in the wilderness isn’t something we fear on a daily basis anymore. After all, with all the conveniences of modern life, how can anyone really get too far out of their way. This is America!
But when one grandma found herself stranded in the middle of the Arizona wilderness, she learned that that’s really not the case. But instead of panicking, she came up with the most brilliant idea…
Tucson woman Ann Rodgers, 72, just wanted to go visit her grandchildren in nearby Phoenix.
But after taking a wrong turn, she got lost. Her hybrid car ran out of battery power and gas and she was stranded. She knew she would have to work hard if she wanted to survive in the Arizona wilds.
Eventually she was able to attract the attention of rescuers by spelling out “HELP” with bits of wood and debris.
She told rescuers that she had survived on pond water and local greens while she waited for help.
Most people wouldn’t be able to last a week under those kind of conditions. But Ann had to survive for nine days before she was finally rescued rescued.
Thank goodness they found her in time. I’m guessing this is one grandmother who won’t forget to fill up the tank the next time she heads out of town. Maybe she should invest in a GPS, too.
