Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Faces Accountability: His Circle, Including Jennifer Lopez, Must Confront Complicity

Derrick Parker, a former NYPD investigator involved in a 1999 shooting linked to Combs and J.Lo, likened him to the Jeffrey Epstein of hip-hop, noting how his status shielded him. “He escaped a lot because of who he was,” Parker said. “Now a lot of stuff is just coming back to him.”

Combs’ recent release of a self-pitying video statement apologizing for assaulting his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura comes after years of denial and counter-accusations. Despite Cassie’s claims of rape and violence, Combs often portrayed her as seeking revenge or engaging in blackmail and extortion.

The recent raids on his properties in L.A. and Miami signal a long-overdue reckoning.

Time's up for Sean 'Diddy' Combs - and he knows it. As must his longtime friends, associates, colleagues, employees, politicos and an entire celebrity industrial complex that propped up this monster for decades - Jennifer Lopez included (pictured in 2000).

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Era Comes to an End – and he’s aware of it. But so should be his longstanding allies, colleagues, staff, politicians, and the entire celebrity machinery that nurtured this figure for years – Jennifer Lopez among them (pictured in 2000).

On Sunday, Combs released a pathetic, self-pitying video statement in which he 'apologized' for viciously beating his then-girlfriend Cassie (pictured in 2016). This, after decades of Diddy's rebuttals and reverse accusations, claiming Cassie was attempting blackmail, revenge, extortion.

On Sunday, Combs released a video statement reeking of self-pity, in which he purported to apologize for his brutal assault on his then-girlfriend Cassie (depicted in 2016). This came after years of Combs deflecting blame, accusing Cassie of blackmail, revenge, and extortion.

Surveillance footage from 2016 captures Diddy violently assaulting Cassie.

Yet, there was New York City Mayor Eric Adams, bestowing upon Combs a key to the city just last September.

“Sean Combs is the embodiment of New York City attitude,” Adams praised at the ceremony. “[He] has proven to be a singular, generational talent.”

Please. Adams, a former New York City police officer, can’t convincingly claim ignorance about Combs. Combs has been on the NYPD’s radar since at least 1991 when nine people died and 29 were injured at an overcrowded NYC basketball event he promoted.

Cassie, incidentally, filed a lawsuit just two months after Combs received the key, in November 2023, strategically timed to coincide with the end of a special New York provision allowing victims of sexual abuse, whose allegations would otherwise have lapsed under the statute of limitations.

The timing suggests Cassie grappled with her decision to file—likely fearing Combs. With good reason. Despite law enforcement’s awareness of his violent behavior for decades, he’s never been convicted.

His rap sheet extends through the 1990s and beyond: alleged shootings, beatings, violent assaults, death threats, and the infamous nightclub shoot-out involving J.Lo.

More recently, Combs vehemently denied Cassie’s claims—allegations of him stomping on her face, beating her until she bled and vomited, witnessed by one of his bodyguards. However, the harrowing security footage from an L.A. hotel, dated March 5, 2016, leaked to CNN on Friday, leaves no room for denial.

In the video, Diddy, clad only in a bath towel, grabs Cassie by the neck, pushes her to the floor, and proceeds to kick her while she’s down—dragging her along the hallway until interrupted by an elevator passenger. Combs’s audacity is staggering—he inflicts severe harm on a defenseless woman in a public setting, half-naked, amidst cameras.

New York City mayor Eric Adams gave Combs a key to the city just last September. 'Sean Combs is the embodiment of New York City attitude,' Adams said at the ceremony. Adams is a former New York City police officer. You can't tell me he didn't know anything about Combs.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams presented Combs with a key to the city last September, declaring, “Sean Combs is the embodiment of New York City attitude.” Adams, a former New York City police officer, surely had knowledge of Combs’s background.

Allegedly, Combs paid the LA Intercontinental Hotel, where the brutal assault occurred, $50,000 for the footage. Who facilitated this transaction? How many hotel staff and executives were complicit in this cover-up?

If you haven’t watched the video yet, brace yourself. It casts Combs in a despicable light, rendering him irredeemable and deserving of life imprisonment.

However, in his apology video, he portrays himself as the sole victim. “Reflecting on the darkest times in your life is difficult,” he says with disturbing nonchalance. There are no tears, only self-pity. “Sometimes, you gotta do that. I was messed up. I mean, I hit rock bottom.”

But his narrative swiftly shifts to self-absolution. “But I make no excuse,” he asserts, conveniently ignoring years of deceit and deflection. “I take full responsibility for my actions in that video.”

Throughout his monologue, it’s all about him. Not once does he acknowledge Cassie’s pain or consider making amends. He claims to have undergone therapy and rehabilitation, but offers no specifics. And, predictably, he invokes God’s grace, a plea likely falling on deaf ears.

The bombshell Cassie video elicited swift action from the LA County District Attorney’s Office, announcing Combs cannot be prosecuted due to the video’s age. It’s an egregious reminder of how violence against women is minimized and dismissed, constrained by outdated statutes of limitations.

Women deserve better. It’s time to abolish these limitations for domestic violence and sexual crimes. In today’s world of ubiquitous surveillance and technology, evidence is often abundant. Decades-old claims can be corroborated, ensuring dangerous predators like Combs are held accountable and removed from society.

In the 1999 Times Square nightclub incident, three people we'. Lopez was arrested, as was Combs. She spent 14 hours in custody before being released without charges.

In the 1999 nightclub altercation, three individuals were shot, including a young woman in the face. Combs emerged as the primary suspect, with Lopez implicated as his alleged ‘gun mule’. Both Lopez and Combs were arrested, though Lopez was released without charges after spending 14 hours in custody (depicted in 2000).

Lopez has so far remained silent about what happened that night and what really went on in their two-year relationship. She's not the only one. His great pal Ashton Kutcher (pictured in 2003), who defended convicted rapist Danny Masterson, has also remained silent.

Lopez has maintained silence regarding the events of that night and the nature of her two-year relationship with Combs. However, she’s not alone in her reticence. Combs’ close friend Ashton Kutcher has also refrained from speaking out. (Pict)

Combs should be promptly handcuffed. Shame on every politician, prosecutor, and lawmaker who fails to take corrective action.

Despite his NYC criminal record, Combs wasn’t nationally recognized as a violent offender until 1998 when he was arrested for brutally assaulting Interscope record executive Steve Stoute over a music video edit disagreement. Stoute recounted the incident to the LA Times, stating, “He punched me in the face and then he grabbed the phone and bashed me in the head with it.” Stoute’s observation that such behavior sets a dangerous precedent rings true.

Combs received a mere one-day anger management sentence for the assault. One can’t help but question whether he had law enforcement or prosecutors in his pocket then, as well as now.

Next, the Times Square nightclub incident in 1999, where three people were shot, including a young woman in the face. Combs was the prime suspect, with Lopez alleged as his ‘gun mule’. Lopez was briefly detained, demanding cuticle cream before her release. Combs was acquitted, but his protégé ‘Shyne’ Barrow served ten years. Natania Reuben, a victim of the shooting, maintains it was Combs who shot her.

Recent allegations from Rodney ‘Lil Rod’ Jones suggest that Lopez carried the gun into the club for Combs and passed it to him during the altercation.

Lopez has yet to address what transpired that night or the dynamics of their relationship. She’s not alone in her silence. Ashton Kutcher, who defended convicted rapist Danny Masterson, has also remained quiet.

What about the nearly 30 artists who collaborated on Combs’s ‘Love’ album last year? Diddy has hobnobbed with princes, Trump, CEOs, and A-list stars. If allegations of a sex trafficking ring involving him are true, how many were complicit?

If allegations of a sprawling sex trafficking ring are true, well - how many people knew? (Pictured with Usher in 2002).

If allegations of a widespread sex trafficking operation are proven true, one can’t help but wonder: how many individuals were aware? (Pictured with Usher in 2002).

With mounting allegations against Combs — from Usher’s allusion to disturbing experiences under Combs’s guidance, to accusations of sex trafficking and rape involving minors, to Lil Rod’s claims of sexual assault by Combs and actor Cuba Gooding Jr. — it appears a federal indictment is imminent.

Justice may finally be on the horizon, but at what cost? How much human suffering could have been prevented?

Combs likely understands that he’s about to face as much pain, if not more, as he’s purportedly inflicted over the years. Even within the confines of prison, individuals convicted of violence against women and sexual assault are met with scorn and hostility.
