Marshawn Kneeland, a defensive end for the Dallas Cowboys, has died at the age of 24, the team announced Thursday morning.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Kneeland died by suicide Wednesday night following a police pursuit. Troopers had attempted to stop Kneeland’s vehicle for a traffic violation, but he refused to pull over, prompting a chase. Authorities later found the vehicle crashed and abandoned. Kneeland was discovered nearby with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials said.

Kneeland, a 2024 second-round draft pick, appeared in Monday night’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals, playing 17 snaps.
