“Perfect Parenting Doesn’t Exist: What Works for One Child May Not for Another”
The reality is that parenting styles often come under scrutiny, labeled as incorrect by others. This became evident when Alexis Solis, a former behavioral analysis therapist and mother, faced a backlash on social media for sharing a video of herself and her daughter shopping, where her child was tethered to a leash.
In a matter of moments, Alexis, hailing from Los Banos, California, ignited a fierce online debate as her video garnered over 12 million views.
A mother of two asserts that she leverages her online presence to raise awareness about child safety.
“I’m weary of the world’s state, but I’ll never tire of safeguarding my daughters,” she wrote in the caption of the video, where she’s shown attaching a leash to her daughter’s hand.
“I’m fine with appearing as an overprotective mom. As long as my little ones are secure, and thanks to everyone, I adore this tool.”
As expected, numerous social media users criticized her parenting choices.
“I hope they keep her leashed when she’s 50,” one person commented.
“I can’t stand those things,” another person chimed in.
Nonetheless, in a subsequent video, Alexis provided further context for the use of the leash, explaining its suitability for children prone to wandering.
“I used to work with children on the spectrum. I don’t share this aspect of my life often, but I was an ABA therapist,” she revealed.
“A common issue with children on the autism spectrum is elopement. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, it refers to when a child tends to wander off or run away from their parent or the surrounding environment.”
“This can be a distressing experience for both the child and the parent. I believe that having this device during my work with families would have significantly enhanced safety.”
