Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Remarkable $1.5 Million Gift to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Heartwarming Playhouse Creation for St. Jude Target House Families”
The remarkable donation, totaling $1.5 million, was recently made by Chip and Joanna Gaines to support St. Jude Children’s Hospital. In addition to this, the couple crafted a delightful playhouse for the families of long-term patients at the St. Jude Target House.
These funds were amassed through a fundraising social media campaign spearheaded by Chip, using the hashtag #ChipInChallenge. Initially setting a goal of $230,000, the Fixer Upper star exceeded expectations by raising over six times that amount, as reported by People magazine.

On June 19th, Chip and Joanna Gaines paid a heartfelt visit to the Memphis hospital to hand-deliver the generous donation check and unveil the playhouse they had personally designed. During their visit, the couple took the opportunity to spend time with the young patients at the hospital.
Chip shared a touching moment, saying, ‘As we walked in today, a little boy told us that he’s ‘demo day-ing’ his cancer treatment, and that’s pretty much the best thing I’ve ever heard.’ He continued, ‘In our world, demo day marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of a newer, more exciting one.’
To achieve their fundraising goal, Chip and Joanna enlisted the support of fellow celebrities, including Jennifer Lopez and her fiancé, Alex Rodriguez, Kacey Musgraves, and Drew Barrymore. Beyond their financial contribution, the couple also aimed to provide a haven for families seeking lodging while their loved ones received treatment at the hospital.
Joanna expressed her sentiments, saying, ‘When we learned about the need for some TLC outside of Target House, we immediately knew we wanted to craft a charming playhouse for the children’s enjoyment.’ She added, ‘There’s a certain magic in spending quality time outdoors, and while we hope these families won’t be here for long, we wanted to create a sanctuary for them to cherish during their stay.
The Playhouse is situated behind an archway adorned with flowers and includes a pretend kitchen with plastic food and a table.
“When we were designing this playhouse, we knew we wanted it to feel whimsical and fun — that was the inspiration behind details like the colorful flowers in the flower boxes and the sweet kitchen area,” she said. “Our hope is that this space brings a bit of joy to the families here,” she explained.
