Three teenage girls were exploring the woods near their Forsyth County residence when they were intrigued by peculiar sounds. Perplexed by the resemblance to a baby’s cry, they couldn’t determine the source or which animal could be producing such unusual noises.
In a shared moment of disbelief, the girls exchanged glances, questioning the possibility of a baby being in the midst of the woods. Despite the strangeness of the notion, they mustered the courage to reach out to their dad for assistance. It turned out to be the pivotal decision that would change everything.
Alan Ragatz, their father, arrived on the scene and was astounded by what he discovered. There, in a plastic bag, lay a newborn baby, her umbilical cord still untouched. The little girl had only been in this world for a few hours, and without Alan and his daughters, her chances of survival would have been slim to none.

Recalling that fateful day, Kayla, one of Alan’s daughters, recounted, “We grabbed our flashlights and were driving around, and we were like, ‘That doesn’t sound like an animal.'”
When they informed Alan about their suspicion of hearing a baby’s cries, he remembers responding, “That’s got to be impossible. It’s a baby raccoon, deer, or something.”
But his daughters proved to be right, and their swift action played a crucial role in saving the precious baby’s life. “We went down, pulled it up. There was a poor little baby wrapped in a plastic bag, and we called 911,” added Alan. “She was alive. She was crying, so we figured that was a good sign. It could have been worse. The credit goes to my girls. They were the ones sticking with it.”
Authorities were immediately notified, and the baby was safely taken to a designated location where she received the necessary care and support.
Sheriff Ron Freeman expressed his firm belief in divine intervention, stating, “It is, without doubt, divine intervention that this child was found. If it wasn’t for these citizens, we would be having a different conversation.” He extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Ragatz family for their remarkable actions.
The survival of the baby, now named India, was nothing short of a miracle and a testament to the power of God. Despite being abandoned by her mother, India miraculously emerged unharmed. Her heartwarming story captured widespread attention, and countless individuals expressed their interest in providing her with the loving home that her biological parents failed to give. Tom Rawlings, director of the state Division of Family and Children Services, shared, “We’ve had, literally, thousands of people across the country and other parts of North America come forward wanting to adopt Baby India.”
Luckily, princess India is now doing great and is eagerly waiting to meet her new mommy and daddy. “She’s gaining weight and smiling a lot. She’s an easy baby who loves to be held and sung to, and she’s overall thriving now,” Rawlings added.
As for now, the whole country is sending their love and their best wishes to the little heroine who wouldn’t stop fighting for her life and did her best for her cries for help to be heard.
