Arnold Schwarzenegger, 76, has revealed details about his undisclosed health battle following his recent disclosure of undergoing a pacemaker implantation last Monday. The renowned actor, who has undergone three open heart surgeries in the past, disclosed experiencing irregular heartbeat over the past few years.

Despite his renowned athleticism, Schwarzenegger confessed that the condition had significantly affected him, expressing that it had left him feeling drained during the Arnold Sports Festival earlier this month. The festival, which he co-founded with Worthington, Ohio’s mayor, Jim Lorimer, in 1989, features a diverse array of sports events including professional bodybuilding, strongman competitions, fitness, figure, and bikini expos, and is held annually in both the US and UK.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has disclosed his private health ordeal, revealing that he underwent a pacemaker implantation last Monday. He candidly admitted to facing difficulties enduring 16-hour days at the Arnold Sports Festival earlier this month, as depicted in the accompanying image.

The actor, 76, underwent the procedure last Monday after previously having three open heart surgeries, explaining that he had an irregular heartbeat for a few years (pictured after surgery in 2020)

At the age of 76, the actor underwent the procedure just last Monday, following three prior open-heart surgeries. He clarified that he had been experiencing an irregular heartbeat for several years, as illustrated in the accompanying image taken after surgery in 2020.

He admitted that despite his famous athleticism, the condition had 'worn him out' and that he had 'struggled' at the Arnold Sports Festival earlier this month (pictured)

He acknowledged that despite his well-known athleticism, the condition had thoroughly exhausted him, resulting in a noticeable struggle during the Arnold Sports Festival earlier this month, as seen in the accompanying image.

Arnold revealed that the extensive days spent at the festival, engaging in various sports and interacting with fans, prompted him to recognize the necessity of getting a pacemaker fitted.

His journey with heart surgeries began in 1997 with elective surgery to replace a defective congenital aortic heart valve. Subsequently, in 2020, he underwent another aortic valve replacement in Cleveland, Ohio, complementing the pulmonary valve inserted in April 2018 in Los Angeles.

Speaking on his podcast, Arnold’s Pump Club, he shared, “Last Monday, I underwent surgery to enhance my endurance: I received a pacemaker.” He elaborated, “My medical team advised me to proceed with this procedure due to irregular heartbeat caused by scar tissue from previous surgeries. This irregularity persisted for years, prompting regular check-ups and heart rate monitoring.”

He continued, “My doctors stressed the importance of vigilant monitoring, with regular visits and remote heart rate tracking. With their attentive care, they alerted me when it was time for a pacemaker.”

In 1989, the former politician collaborated with Jim Lorimer, the mayor of Worthington, Ohio, to establish the annual multi-sports event.

Arnold explained that the long days he spends at the festival, going to all the sports and meeting the fans made him realise it was time for him to get the pacemaker fitted

Arnold expressed that the extensive days he dedicates to the festival, participating in various sports activities and engaging with fans, led him to realize that it was time for him to undergo the pacemaker procedure.

“In early March, during my routine checkup before heading to the Arnold Sports Festival, a comprehensive series of tests were conducted. Upon returning home to LA, fate seemed to intervene as I spoke to one of my closest friends.

“They shared their experience of having a pacemaker implanted, highlighting the swift recovery and the restoration of energy levels. It struck a chord with me.

“It became evident that an irregular heartbeat exacts a toll on the body, causing fatigue due to the additional strain placed on the heart.”

“Frankly, those 16-hour days at the Arnold Sports Festival in the US at the beginning of March and in the UK last week were quite a challenge. I made it a point to visit as many sports events as possible and navigate through crowds of hundreds of thousands of fitness enthusiasts.

“Coincidentally, on the same day I had a conversation with my friend about their experience with a pacemaker, one of my doctors reached out. They reviewed my test results and data, considering my upcoming filming schedule for FUBAR Season 2, and advised me that it was time to proceed with the pacemaker implantation. They emphasized the importance of maintaining my health for future seasons of FUBAR.

“I agreed to the procedure and scheduled it for the following Monday, even stopping in Cleveland on my way back from the UK to undergo the surgery. It’s all part of dealing with a genetic heart issue. However, I’m not one to complain.

“I’m grateful to the entire team at the Cleveland Clinic for their exceptional care during the surgery, making the experience as comfortable as possible.

“Although I’ll need to take it easy at the gym for a while, I’m recovering well overall. It’s not in my nature to openly discuss my medical issues, as I was raised in Austria where such matters were kept private. However, knowing that sharing my story can provide courage and hope to others facing similar conditions has convinced me to be more open.

“I’ve received numerous messages from individuals born with a bicuspid aortic valve, like myself, expressing how my transparency about my valve replacement surgeries has inspired them. If being transparent can help others, then it’s a choice I’m willing to make.”

Arnold reassured his fans that he is recovering well and joked he now has a 'machine part', just like his Terminator character (pictured with Jane Fonda on Friday after surgery)

Arnold provided reassurance to his fans, assuring them that he is recuperating effectively. He humorously remarked that he now possesses a ‘machine part,’ akin to his Terminator character, as depicted in the accompanying image with Jane Fonda on Friday following his surgery.

And while he lamented that he wouldn't be able to hit the gym hard for a while, he insisted he was doing 'great'

Although he expressed disappointment about not being able to hit the gym intensely for some time, he emphasized that he was doing “great.”

He continued, saying, “I could have kept it to myself. But with over 750,000 subscribers now (to be precise, 775,000 — our village has grown into a city!), many of you may be facing your own health battles.

“I want you to understand that you’re not alone. If fear is holding you back from addressing something, I hope my story encourages you to heed your doctors’ advice and prioritize your well-being.

“This community is a safe space for openness and honesty because true positivity cannot flourish when emotions are suppressed.

“That’s the essence of Arnold’s Pump Club. There are burdens that none of us can carry alone. But united, we can overcome anything — we can uplift the world. Remember, you are never alone here.”
