The cause of death of Alaskan Bush People star Matt Brown has been revealed following a recent autopsy report.

According to findings from the Okanogan County Coroner in Washington, obtained by Page Six, Brown’s death was ruled a suicide. The report also cited additional contributing factors, including immersion in a river and the presence of methamphetamine in his system.

Officials confirmed that Brown’s remains will be released to his family so they can proceed with funeral arrangements and final services.

On May 27, a witness called 911 after reportedly spotting Brown—seen above—floating face-down in the Okanogan River near Oroville, Washington.

According to accounts, the witness initially saw a man later identified as Brown wading in the river. After briefly looking away, they heard a loud noise and then saw him floating face-down in the fast-moving current.

The following day, Alaskan Bush People star Matt Brown’s younger brother, Bear Brown, shared that he had received “some really bad news,” saying Matt “took his own life.”

Bear, 38, added that Matt had been seen “in a river, at a river or close to a river” and later “floating down the river,” noting that someone had called authorities, who were attempting to locate his body.

Bear—seen above—claimed that Matt had “been struggling for a long time with alcohol and with drugs.”

“All the witnesses are saying that it was Matt,” Bear said. “Someone definitely did, and a lot of people are thinking that it’s him. … It looks like it is. … It’s looking very likely that it is the case.”

He also alleged that his older brother had “been struggling for a long time with alcohol and with drugs,” and said Matt had “didn’t want anything to do with the family.”

Bear later confirmed that authorities had identified the body recovered from the Okanogan River as his brother.

In a TikTok update, Bear said, “They found a body in the river a few hours ago and it was positively identified as being Matt.”

Bear also stated that Noah Brown was the first family member to see the body and assisted authorities during the recovery.

“Noah helped them pull the body out of the water and Noah identified [Matt],” he said.

Bear added that he believed Matt died by suicide.

Matt—seen above in a selfie—was a cast member of Discovery’s reality series Alaskan Bush People from 2014 until 2019.

“I would’ve never thought that Matt would hurt himself. It does look as though it was self-inflicted,” Bear said at the time.

The show premiered in 2014 and followed the Brown family as they lived in the Alaskan wilderness, documenting their off-grid lifestyle.
