Traveling on an airplane can be exciting for a number of reasons, like getting a window seat where you can look outside at the beautiful landscapes below and the pretty skies in front of you. There are also some downsides with flights, as turbulence can be expected every now and then, and sometimes there are delays before the initial takeoff. While most of these can be expected from time to time, something unexpected happened for the people aboard a British Airways flight in October 2018.
Passengers aboard a British Airways flight were given a special surprise on Oct. 24, 2018. What started off as an ordinary day in the sky turned into a moment that would surely be remembered forever. The Kingdom Choir was also on the flight and performed a stunning rendition of “Stand By Me” for everyone else on the plane. Their gorgeous vocals carried throughout the airplane and shocked the passengers and crew members who were also on the flight.
This was not the first time the Kingdom Choir surprised people with an amazing performance. Although they have been together for quite some time, the group first saw a surge in their popularity when they performed at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
After wowing viewers across the world with their dignified performance, the choir decided to continue blessing the ears of folks and sang for the flyers and flight attendants on a British Airways flight. Their performance, equally mesmerizing and inspiring, likely captivated the hearts of everyone on board.

The Kingdom Choir is a group of singers and performers from in and around the city of London, England, who joined together to create “a sound that demonstrates the community they share,” according to the biography on their official website. The choir has shared their talent with not just the United Kingdom, but with many other countries in the world for over 20 years.
According to a 2018 press release from British Airways, the flight was en route to the Invictus Games in Sydney, Australia, when the Kingdom Choir decided to help make the time go by a little faster by putting on a show. The Invictus Games, founded by the Duke of Sussex, is an international sporting event for both servicemen and women who have been wounded, injured or sick during their time of service or veterancy. The Kingdom Choir was set to perform at the games just a few days later in front of Harry and Meghan, along with everyone else who would be in attendance.
A video of the performance was uploaded to YouTube on Oct. 24, 2018, and has since received over 8.6 million views and more than 136,000 likes. At 35,000 feet in the sky, the Kingdom Choir decided it was finally time to entertain the passengers with their own rendition of “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King. As members of the choir stood up and instantly began humming and singing a sweet melody, passengers quickly began smiling and looking for the best view of the performance.
Walking down the aisles of the plane, the choir snapped to the beat of “Stand By Me” and showed off their stunning vocal abilities as they harmonized with one another, with some members getting a chance to show off their individual talents as well. Almost every passenger had a phone in their hands to record the performance as they watched in amazement as the Kingdom Choir continued singing. Even some of the flight attendants stood by to watch while happily recording the performance themselves!
A few passengers in particular really got into the song, and they, too, sang along and bobbed their heads to the a cappella arrangement. The choir was met with a loud round of applause when they finished their performance on a harmonious note.
“It was great fun that our last rehearsal before such a special performance took place on the British Airways flight,” Kingdom Choir member Kelisha Tuck said. “We’ve never performed in the air before, so it was a great way to warm up the vocal cords and we hope we entertained our fellow flyers for a few minutes on the very long flight to Sydney!”
The passengers and crew members aboard the flight seemed to enjoy watching the performance just as much as the choir did putting on the performance, especially Carolina Martinoli, British Airways’ Director of Brand and Customer Experience. “We’re so proud to have flown our British heroes out to represent us at the Invictus Games, and when we found out the Kingdom Choir would be following in their footsteps a few days later we decided we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to treat our customers to a really special and intimate performance at 35,000 feet,” she said.
