Ever found yourself reminiscing about a beloved old show, pondering what the actors have been up to over the years? If you were a fan of “Little House on the Prairie” and eagerly followed the adventures of the family in Plum Creek near Walnut Grove, Minnesota, you might be curious about the current endeavors of the cast.

Devotees of the actress who portrayed Mary Ingalls, the lovely Melissa Sue Anderson, likely hoped she would remain a fixture on their screens. However, it turns out she had different plans.

Presently, she discusses her choice to depart from Hollywood and relocate to Canada. Initially, she embarked on her acting journey with guest roles, eventually making her mark in showbiz as one of the prominent figures in “Little House on the Prairie.” Her performances earned her numerous nominations for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series, a recognition well-deserved according to her devoted fans.

Reflecting on her experience filming the drama that catapulted her to fame, Anderson shared with Pop Entertainment in 2010, “I’m fortunate that there even was a character to play because in the book, there isn’t much of one. Laura [Ingalls, the author of the Little House novels on which the series was based and focused] was a considerably older woman when she wrote the books. She was recalling the best moments of her life. The characters of Ma and Mary didn’t play a significant role. There was a lot of Laura and Pa, Laura and Jack the dog, and Laura and Mr. Edwards, but not much of Mary. I’m lucky that they discovered I could act.”

After her portrayal of Mary Ingalls, she explored smaller roles in the industry. In 1990, she tied the knot with television producer Michael Sloan. Eventually, in 2002, she, along with her husband and their two children – daughter Piper and son Griffin, relocated to Montreal.

By 2007, the family had become Canadian citizens. Embracing their new life brought forth fresh responsibilities. Consequently, Anderson made the decision to step away from showbiz. Her motivation stemmed from a desire to devote more time to her children, steering clear of any pressure for them to pursue careers in acting.

In an interview with E-Talk, Anderson said, “I really stepped away for a long time. That was really for the kids so they would have their own sense of who they were as opposed to being with me.”

Nevertheless, Anderson did not completely withdraw from acting; instead, she embraced smaller roles in recent years. Her transformative experience as part of a series like “Little House on the Prairie” inspired her to pen a memoir titled “The Way I See It: A Look Back at My Life on Little House.”
