The world was deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic passing of actor Matthew Perry. Millions of fans are in mourning for the man who will forever be remembered for his iconic portrayal of Chandler Bing in the beloved series, “Friends.”

Nearly two decades have passed since the show’s final episode aired, yet “Friends” remains one of the most enduringly popular TV series of all time. The lives of these six friends, navigating the ups and downs of Manhattan while sharing unforgettable moments, have become synonymous with the true essence of friendship.

The series finale of “Friends” captivated the hearts of 50 million Americans. During the show’s last season, each of the six friends received a staggering $1 million per episode. Even in the years following its original airing, the constant reruns have continued to generate an estimated $20 million annually for Perry and his fellow cast members.

Spokesperson of the LA Fire Department reported that first responders arrived at Perry’s home at about 4 p.m. regarding a “water emergency” of an unknown type, but did not name the actor. Sadly, upon arrival, they discovered Perry’s unresponsive body. According to them, there were no drugs of any type at the scene. At the time being, no foul play is suspected.

The actor, born in 1969 to a Canadian mother and an American father, marked his cinematic debut in the 1988 film “A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon,” in which he shared the screen with the late River Phoenix.

His portfolio also includes appearances in television series such as “Growing Pains,” “Sydney” alongside Valerie Bertinelli, and “Beverly Hills, 90210.

Numerous celebrities expressed their condolences for the esteemed actor. Among them was Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who used social media to convey his deep sorrow regarding Perry’s untimely demise. Trudeau stated, “The news of Matthew Perry’s passing is both shocking and deeply saddening. I’ll always cherish the childhood memories and games we shared, and I’m certain people across the globe will forever treasure the happiness he brought into their lives. Thank you for all the laughter, Matthew. You were cherished, and your absence will be felt.”

Maggie Wheeler, renowned for her role as Chandler’s unforgettable ex-girlfriend Janice in “Friends,” was the first of Perry’s fellow actors to publicly honor his memory. She shared on Instagram, “I feel incredibly fortunate for every creative moment we shared.”

Actress Morgan Fairchild, who played Perry’s on-screen mother, expressed her profound sorrow, saying, “I’m devastated by the untimely passing of my ‘son,’ Matthew Perry. Losing such a brilliant young actor is truly shocking.”

Selma Blair affectionately referred to Perry as her “oldest boyfriend” and added, “We all loved Matthew Perry, and my love for him was particularly deep. Every single day. I loved him unconditionally, and he loved me in return. Now, my heart is shattered. Rest peacefully, Matty. Sweet dreams.”

Regarding his life, Perry openly shared on numerous occasions that he grappled with several addictions. His ascent to stardom occurred when he was cast in “Friends,” one of the most iconic shows ever produced. However, it was during this period that he also began to struggle with alcohol abuse.

“I could manage it, to some extent. But by the time I turned 34, I found myself deeply entangled in a lot of troubles,” Perry admitted. “However, there were years when I maintained sobriety during that period. Season 9 was the year I remained sober throughout. Interestingly, it was the season in which I received a nomination for the best actor. It made me think, ‘That should tell me something.'”

In 2016, he revealed that he had no recollection of three years of filming “Friends.”

“I didn’t watch the show, and I still haven’t watched it, because I could see it as ‘Drinking, opiates, drinking, cocaine,'” he shared the previous year. “I could identify it season by season based on how I looked. That’s why I’ve avoided watching it, because that’s what I associate with it. However, I’m considering starting to watch it now because it’s been remarkable to see how it has touched the hearts of different generations.”

In the days leading up to his departure, Perry posted his final Instagram image, which is now eerily poignant, featuring him in a hot tub.

Matthew Perry, may your captivating smile live on in our memories forever.
