A 107-year-old woman has revealed the secret to her long and happy life, crediting her daily breakfast of bacon and eggs, along with strong family bonds and a good sense of humor.

Dorothy Creighton celebrated her 107th birthday last month at her care home in Horndean, England, where friends and family gathered for a surprise party complete with a large birthday cake.

The great-grandmother, who has enjoyed bacon and eggs for breakfast for more than a century, believes her morning routine has played a part in her remarkable longevity.

But her recipe for a happy life goes beyond what’s on her plate.

“The secret to a long and happy life is to have a good man, a good family and to keep everyone around me on their toes,” she said

Dorothy Creighton celebrated her latest milestone birthday last month at her care home in Horndean, Hampshire, surrounded by loved ones.

Sharing another secret to her remarkable longevity, she said: “Also, I can’t live without my bacon and eggs every morning, or my jelly babies!”

Born in Bristol, Dorothy was a self-described tomboy growing up and loved spending her childhood playing football with the boys.

She began her working life as a hairdresser, but when World War II broke out, she joined the Women’s Land Army, where she met the man who would later become her husband.

The couple went on to build a loving family, raising two daughters and a son and welcoming numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren over the years.

The great-grandmother credits her remarkable longevity in part to a lifelong habit of eating bacon and eggs for breakfast, a routine she has reportedly followed for more than a century.

Dorothy moved into Care UK’s Pear Tree Court care home in 2023, where she remains sociable and active. According to staff, she loves chatting with fellow residents and regularly stops by the home’s coffee shop and sweet cart.

To mark her special birthday, staff decorated the care home with colorful balloons and banners, while the head chef prepared a cake in her honor.

Aimee Sparks, home manager at Pear Tree Court, shared her excitement about the celebration, saying: “We were so excited to celebrate such a joyous day with Dorothy.”

“The secret to a long and happy life is to have a good man, a good family and to keep everyone around me on their toes,” Creighton said.

Aimee Sparks, home manager at Pear Tree Court, said Dorothy is a cherished member of the care home community and that celebrating her 107th birthday was a special occasion for everyone.

“As a much-loved resident, it was wonderful to mark this tremendous milestone with her,” Sparks said.

“Here at the home, everything we do centres around our ethos of ensuring residents lead active and fulfilling lives – and Dorothy’s 107th birthday celebration was no exception.

“It was lovely to see how happy she was to be surrounded by those closest to her on her special day.”
