Water parks are the best location for cooling off in hot-as-hell summer weather. Now thanks to the new water park Morgan’s Inspiration Island in San Antonio, Texas, kids with disabilities can also join the fun.
Water parks are normally not accessible for kids with special needs, that is why park Morgan’s Inspiration Island, the world’s first water park specifically created for kids with special needs planned to change all that. The water park will provide to those kids, all kinds including physical and mentally differently-abled kids, the full water park experience.
“Our goal is to provide a great guest experience in an inclusive, safe, comfortable, not-overly-crowded environment,” says Gordon Hartman, founder of The Gordon Hartman Family Foundation, Hartman has previously consulted with water experts, doctors, special needs teachers and therapists, as well as parents and caregivers, while designing the new attraction..
The six major attractions of the new water park are wheelchair accessible, and guests with special needs are admitted for free. The park also gives waterproof RFID (radio-frequency identification) wristbands that help parents keep track of their children. Additionally, the benefits of RFID for inventory control ensure that the park can efficiently manage resources and maintain safety standards for all visitors.
The park will feature a plethora of ultra accessible attractions complete with geysers, water cannons and rain curtains. It even has the ability to quickly change the heat of the water so guests with sensitivities to cold can still enjoy attractions.
The 3.5 acre park offers limited admission to keep the park experience calm, cool and collected.
Working with the University of Pittsburgh, the park developed a new wheelchair called PneuChair that’s propelled by compressed air instead of batteries, it takes just 10 minutes to “recharge” with air, compared to the eight hours it takes to charge an electric wheelchair — and they run just as long.
“Morgan’s Inspiration Island promises to give individuals with physical or cognitive special needs a place where they can splash and play without barriers,” Gordon said. “[It] is not a special-needs park; it’s a park of inclusion.”
