Chinese couple Hedong Zhang and Yiqin Lu were looking through old photos when Lu spotted a familiar face in this snap of Zhang at the Giant Buddha statue at Ling Shan Mountain.
Then-14-year-old Zhang visited the statue in 2000, but little did he know his future wife was just feet away.
Lu spotted her own mother in the background of Zhang’s photo wearing a red coat.
The couple, hardly believing their eyes, took the photo to Lu’s mom for confirmation and the amazed woman produced a snap of herself in the very same coat and exact same spot.
After a bit more digging, the couple discovered that 9-year-old Lu and 14-year-old Zhang took the same bus to visit the statue, their respective parents having used the same tour company.
“My husband said, ‘Although we didn’t know each other then, the skies must’ve planned this for us 16 years ahead of time,’” said Lu.
“With this incredible story, we’ll cherish our love even more. If there hadn’t been a picture, I would have thought this type of story were a fantasy. Now I do believe in destiny.”
