When people think of weddings, the image of a bride in a white dress often comes to mind. There’s an unspoken tradition that dictates female attendees, including relatives and guests, should avoid wearing attire resembling a wedding dress, white included. The rationale is simple: no one should overshadow the bride on her special day.
However, have you ever heard of a bride breaking away from tradition and choosing a colorful dress instead of the customary white? While it might be considered unconventional, it’s essential to remember that the bride has the freedom to wear whatever she pleases on her wedding day. One courageous woman decided to don a pink wedding dress, sparking a wave of criticism from internet users. Yet, she remained steadfast, determined not to let negativity taint her wedding day.
In November 2022, a woman named Camille Lescai took to TikTok to share a video revealing her wedding dress, a secret she had kept from friends and family until the big day arrived.
Upon witnessing her pink wedding dress, the women in her life were visibly surprised and filled with excitement for her. For Lescai, the decision to keep her dress a secret was undoubtedly “worth the wait.”
Lescai’s choice of a pink wedding dress was a reflection of her personality, a color she had fallen in love with after discovering a stunning creation by an Australian designer on Instagram. She decided to invest in a custom-made version of the dress, which came with a price tag of $4,400.

On her wedding day, Lescai remained a standout presence amidst a sea of guests clad in white dresses and gentlemen donning black suits.
“The entire wedding party was dressed in white! I didn’t reveal why; they discovered it when I made my entrance at the aisle,” one attendee remarked.
“I’m not particularly bound by tradition, so while I understand the allure of a more traditional wedding attire, I don’t believe I would have felt true to myself in anything else,” Lescai expressed in an interview with Insider.
She went on to explain, “I challenged convention by requesting that both the bridal party and guests wear white, and my wedding day turned out to be extraordinary. I had an incredible day and absolutely adored my dress.”
While some hailed her for executing a unique concept and deemed the dress “stunning,” a significant number of women rallied to her defense.
“Don’t pay attention to these critics. They can’t handle individuality. You looked absolutely breathtaking,” one supporter reassured.
“The negative comments are truly unbelievable… You looked gorgeous. Everyone has their own vision for their special day,” echoed another empathetic comment.
Lescai acknowledged feeling uneasy, knowing that the negative remarks had the potential to discourage other women from pursuing their own unique wedding dress ideas in the future.
“It’s not just an attack on me; it affects all the people who are observing from the sidelines. Many young women who commented on my video expressed their desire to wear a dress like mine when they get married. I couldn’t help but contemplate the impact reading these comments might have on them,” she expressed.

However, Lescai didn’t hold back when one commenter compared her dress to “old-fashioned toilet roll covers.” In response, she created another video to address the criticism head-on.
In this subsequent video, she took a moment to read some of the comments about her dress, including those that labeled it as “awful” and “the ugliest.” Some even went as far as calling her “hideous” and a “jiggly puff.”
She candidly remarked, “The anonymity of the internet sometimes emboldens people to hide in the shadows, write hurtful things to tear others down, and then simply disappear. However, sunlight can often be the best disinfectant.”
Lescai received praise for her courage in embracing her uniqueness. One supportive commenter wrote, “I admire your boldness in being different! The world needs more people like you.”
In a humorous twist, she responded to the criticism by playfully referencing an over-the-counter medicine for upset stomach and diarrhea, saying, “It takes a bold individual to turn up to their wedding dressed as ‘pepto bismal dry rub.'”
Furthermore, she offered some valuable advice to anyone else facing similar online negativity. She remarked, “My advice to those dealing with online hate is to try not to take it to heart. Remember that the people who genuinely care about you in your life will love you regardless of what’s said online, and those are the opinions that truly matter.”
Responding to a person who told her who want to wear a pink wedding dress to her wedding, she said: “Go for it! For me, I was all about secrecy but I feel like pink wedding dresses are the new frontier!”
