Police have released video footage of a woman they want to question after a newborn baby, still attached to its umbilical cord, was found abandoned in a New York City subway station.
The clip, shared by the NYPD on Tuesday, shows the woman carrying a bundle wrapped in white cloth as she walks along the sidewalk near 7th Avenue and 34th Street in Midtown — close to the 34th Street–Penn Station, where the baby was discovered.
She is seen wearing pink pants, a red headscarf, and glasses, according to the footage.
The NYPD cordoned off part of the subway station at 7th Avenue and 34th Street after a newborn baby was found alive and abandoned.
Police said the infant girl was discovered around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday during the morning rush hour on the southbound platform of the 1 train at the busy 34th Street–Penn Station.
About 30 minutes earlier, an unidentified person was seen entering the station and leaving the baby on the floor, wrapped in a blanket, before fleeing on foot, according to authorities.
The newborn, who was conscious and alert with her umbilical cord still attached, was taken by police to Bellevue Hospital in a cruiser and is in stable condition, officials said.
No arrests have been made.
