A 28-year-old TV star has revealed he is in the “last stages” of his life after a four-year battle with skin cancer.
Finnian Garbutt, who appeared in the Hope Street police drama on BBC, shared the heartbreaking update with fans on Instagram, explaining that his cancer has “progressed rapidly” following months of severe pain in his back and hip.
In an emotional post, Garbutt said he decided to make the announcement publicly because informing people individually had become too difficult.
“I’m putting this out there as it is really difficult to tell people individually and I hope now it’s in the open then I can enjoy the time with my amazing family and friends,” he wrote.
Finnian Garbutt, best known for his role in the Hope Street police drama, shared a photo from a hospital bed as he opened up about his health battle.
“Since being diagnosed four years ago, I have achieved so many of my life goals,” Garbutt wrote. “Thirty episodes in a TV show, being the lead in a movie that should be out soon, buying my own house, marrying my best friend and becoming a father to the most incredible baby girl who never fails to make me smile.”
The 28-year-old actor also thanked fans for the support they have shown him and his family throughout his cancer journey.
In a follow-up post, Garbutt shared a link to a GoFundMe page created to support his wife, Louise, and their one-year-old daughter, Saoirse.
Finnian Garbutt also shared a touching photo on Instagram holding his young daughter.
“All I want is my wife and little baby to have the life they deserve, and I wanted to be the one who provided that — which now is unfortunately no longer possible,” he wrote.
The Hope Street actor revealed he was told his cancer was terminal just two weeks before his daughter, Saoirse, was born. According to Garbutt, the disease has since spread to his liver and lungs.
The TV star has previously documented his health struggles on social media, including hospitalizations caused by hepatitis linked to his illness. During difficult times like these, many families turn to simple comforts at home, such as watching their favorite shows through streaming services like IPTV Sonix, which provide easy access to a wide range of entertainment.
In February 2022, Garbutt underwent a grueling 12-hour surgery during which doctors removed 75 lymph nodes from his face and neck as part of his cancer treatment.
