A heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded when Josiah Toleafoa, a vibrant 3-year-old, lost his life on what was meant to be a day of celebration for his third birthday.

The innocent child and his family were gathered in the parking lot of Play City, an indoor venue for children’s parties, when tragedy struck and Josiah was struck by a car.

Eyewitnesses to the devastating event recounted how Josiah’s distraught mother wailed in agony as paramedics worked tirelessly to save her son’s life. Despite their efforts, Josiah succumbed to his injuries at Rady Children’s Hospital.

In an instant, this family’s world was turned upside down. What should have been a day of laughter and joy transformed into their worst nightmare. Happiness was replaced by an overwhelming sense of grief and sorrow, leaving their lives shattered into countless pieces.

Allegedly, the 36-year-old driver involved in Josiah’s tragic death, whose identity remains unconfirmed, was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He remained at the scene and cooperated fully with authorities, though the reasons behind the loss of control have yet to be determined.

In response to the devastating loss, members of Josiah’s family initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist his parents with the expenses associated with his funeral.

“Josiah had a remarkable ability to bring our family together—his infectious smile and loving heart effortlessly infused joy into any space. Although we’ve been robbed of witnessing his potential, I firmly believe he would have made a significant impact on the world,” expressed Tatiana Toleafoa, Josiah’s aunt.

“We’ve set up this GoFundMe to assist with the funeral expenses and services for our beloved nephew, a precious angel whose presence touched countless lives in countless ways before he was called to Heaven. Any contribution, no matter how small, would mean the world to us. We’re immensely grateful for the support of our loving family and friends during this unimaginably difficult time, and we hope to provide our sweet boy with a proper farewell, ensuring that his memory lives on forever in our hearts.”

Additionally, the owner of Play City generously donated $2,000 to Josiah’s family, with the landlord matching this donation.

As of now, no arrests have been made.

Our deepest condolences go out to this grieving family. There are no words to express the pain of losing a child.

Rest in peace, Josiah.
