Chiefs owner Clark Hunt’s family experienced a heartbreaking loss during the devastating floods in Texas over the weekend.
Nine-year-old Janie Hunt, a young cousin of the family and camper at Camp Mystic, was among the victims of the tragedy.
She was only 9 years old.
Janie Hunt was among those who lost their lives in the devastating Texas floods this weekend.
“Our hearts are broken by the devastation caused by the floods in Wimberley and the tragic loss of so many lives — including a beloved young Hunt cousin, as well as the daughters of several friends,” wrote Tavia Hunt, wife of Clark Hunt, on Instagram. “How do we trust a God who is said to be good, all-knowing, and all-powerful, yet allows such heartbreaking tragedies — even to children?”
“That is a sacred and deeply personal question — one the Bible does not ignore. Scripture is filled with the voices of those whose hearts have been broken, still struggling to trust the very God they believe permitted their suffering.”
Janie was the great-granddaughter of the late billionaire William Herbert Hunt, brother of the late Kansas City Chiefs founder, Lamar Hunt.

Lamar Hunt, founder of the Kansas City Chiefs, was the father of Clark Hunt.
The death toll has risen to 82 following heavy rainfall in the Texas Hill Country, which caused the Guadalupe River to overflow its banks
It was Janie Hunt’s first time attending the all-girls camp.
Five girls, along with the camp director, have died, and at least 11 others remain missing.
People watch as law enforcement and volunteers continue searching for missing individuals near Camp Mystic, where at least 20 girls went missing following flash flooding in Hunt, Texas, on July 5, 2025.
