In the face of disdain for her pregnant body, she bravely reveals the truth of her past, offering insight into her journey from years ago.
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!
Turning lemons into lemonade was no easy feat for Jessica Quinn, but her inspiring journey showcases how she now embraces life to the fullest. Despite the harrowing ordeal she endured as a child and the relentless hurtful comments and stares she faced over the years, this now 30-year-old expectant mother has risen above it all.
At the tender age of eight, Jessica was a spirited and athletic child, always brimming with energy. However, her world took a devastating turn when she attempted to display her skills, balancing precariously on a soccer ball, only to tragically fall and fracture her femur.

After enduring a surgery and various treatments, Jessica’s femur bone showed no signs of healing even after four agonizing months, prompting concern among her medical team. Further investigations revealed the startling diagnosis of osteosarcoma, a bone cancer that often originates from the cells responsible for bone formation.
In a bid to save her life, Jessica underwent intensive chemotherapy, which had the unfortunate side effect of causing her weight to plummet to a dangerous 18 kilograms. She recounts, “It was the necessary course of action to eradicate the cancer and give me a chance at survival. But the situation was complex. Due to the previous leg fracture, there was a risk of cancer spread, and the initial attempt to fix the leg with rods ruled out the possibility of traditional bone replacement. The primary goal was simply to preserve my life.”
Faced with two options, the first was a “full hip disarticulation,” an amputation high in the hip socket. However, Jessica realized that this approach would leave her without a knee joint, making it difficult for her to lead the active life she desired, especially as a young child.
The second option presented a groundbreaking procedure that had never been performed in New Zealand before – rotationplasty. This surgery involved removing the middle portion of her leg, rotating it 180 degrees, and reattaching it to her thigh. This innovative approach utilized her ankle as a functional knee joint and her calf as a replacement thigh.
Jessica boldly recalls, “I became the first successful recipient of this unique amputation procedure in New Zealand.”
However, no matter how much she inspires many, there are also those who post negative comments.
Posting a video of her pregnant belly, she addressed the mean commenters who wrote “I would like to see which man was this level of brave plz” and “who the hell pregnanted her.”
Jessica responded, “I HONESTLY do not get down about comments like this. I truly am proud of the body I live in. I know everything I went through to get to this point and it’s all an incredible miracle in my eyes.” She continued, “I also love the community I have built, it’s only when my videos go viral and are shared with people who haven’t followed my story that these comments appear and that just shows we can’t judge a book by cover.”
Her supporters showed they were by her side and wrote heartfelt messages. I always think how lonely, sad and unfulfilled these faceless internet trolls are to write such things,” and “The fact these comments don’t phase you Jess make you even more of an inspiration to me.”
We wish Jessica never loses her positive attitude.
