Former “GMA3” co-anchors T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach’s once-controversial romance has stood the test of time.
“We’re excited to share that we’re engaged — and have been for about a month now,” Robach announced on Tuesday’s episode of the Amy & TJ podcast.
“We wanted to tell you all first, before anyone else had the chance,” Holmes added. “We’ve learned that lesson the hard way when it comes to our relationship.”
T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach are engaged, three years after their relationship became public while they were still married to their former spouses, Marilee Fiebig and Andrew Shue.
“We’re excited to share that we’re engaged — and have been for about a month now,” Robach announced on Tuesday’s episode of the Amy & TJ podcast.
Holmes, 48, noted that Robach, 52, has been wearing her engagement ring publicly — even in “crowds of tens of thousands” — yet no one seemed to notice.
“I was in three massive football stadiums three weekends in a row, wearing my engagement ring very proudly and excitedly, just waiting for someone to point it out or ask, ‘Hey, what’s that?’ But it never happened,” Robach said.
She suggested that perhaps people were simply being “polite,” adding that those close to them “understand what [they’ve] been through and don’t want to pry.”
“We wanted to share the news with all of you before anyone else did — we’ve learned that lesson the hard way when it comes to our relationship,” Holmes said.
The couple revealed that Robach hasn’t been keeping her ring under wraps while out in public.
“That might have been what it was,” Robach said with a laugh.
“We haven’t been hiding it — but nobody asked!” Holmes added, joking that their friends and family would probably kick themselves for not noticing his fiancée’s new sparkler.
Holmes explained that only about 10 people — their immediate families — knew about the engagement and cautioned fans not to believe any “made-up” stories about the proposal.
He assured listeners that he and Robach plan to share details of their special moment sometime soon.
“I was in three massive football stadiums three weekends in a row, proudly and excitedly wearing my engagement ring, just waiting for someone to notice or ask me about it,” Robach shared.
A source told Us Weekly in June that the proposal had “been in the works for a while.” The insider added that Holmes and Robach even plan to invite their ex-spouses — Marilee Fiebig and Andrew Shue — to their wedding.
In an unexpected twist, Fiebig and Shue are now dating each other and reportedly moved in together in February.
Holmes and Robach first sparked engagement rumors in March when she was spotted wearing a large ring on her left hand at the iHeartRadio Music Awards. Later that month, Holmes referred to Robach as his “spouse” on their I Do, Part 2 podcast.
“And it never happened,” she added with a laugh.
The former TV personalities revealed that only 10 people knew about their engagement.
Robach, a mother of two, had previously said she wasn’t in a rush to marry Holmes. Her divorce from Shue was finalized in March 2023, while Holmes finalized his split from Fiebig in October of the same year.
“There’s no urgency — I’m 51 years old, and I don’t need to rush into anything,” she said on the I Do, Part 2 podcast in September 2024. “I think I’ve rushed into everything in my life up until now. But he knows I want to get married, and I know he wants to get married.”
Holmes and Robach’s relationship first made headlines in November 2022, when they were photographed looking cozy while still married to their now ex-spouses. Though they’ve denied having an affair — maintaining that they were both separated at the time — the scandal ultimately led to their firing from GMA3 after an internal investigation.
Robach first fueled engagement rumors in March.
“We lost the jobs we love because we love each other,” Holmes said during the debut of their Amy & T.J. podcast in December 2023.
Since then, the couple has remained inseparable and openly affectionate. At a June 2 tourism event at Manhattan’s Paley Center for Media, their intense PDA reportedly caught onlookers by surprise.
“They were talking to someone, and T.J. was just putting his hand down her pants,” a source told the Daily Mail. “From the top of her shorts, he was sliding his hand down to physically feel her butt… It felt super inappropriate to do right there in front of everyone.”
A second source added, “At one point, she grabbed his ass.”
