WASHINGTON — Sen. John Fetterman was hospitalized “out of an abundance of caution” after he fell and struck his face during a morning walk near his home in Braddock, Pennsylvania, his office announced Thursday.
Doctors later diagnosed the Pennsylvania Democrat with a “ventricular fibrillation flare-up,” a condition in which the heart fails to pump blood properly.
Fetterman previously survived a stroke in 2022, just months before winning his Senate seat.

Sen. John Fetterman suffered a fall near his home in Braddock, Pennsylvania.

Fetterman was seen with his wife in 2022.
“He is doing well and receiving routine observation at the hospital,” Fetterman’s office said in a statement. “He has opted to remain hospitalized so doctors can fine-tune his medication regimen. Senator Fetterman is grateful for the EMTs, doctors, and nurses who are providing his care.”
The 56-year-old senator was reportedly feeling light-headed before the fall and sustained minor injuries.
“If you thought my face looked bad before,” Fetterman joked in a statement, “wait until you see it now.”
The incident occurred just two days after the release of Fetterman’s memoir, Unfettered, which details his health challenges, including his struggle with depression early in his Senate tenure.
