Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have pushed back against what they describe as “deranged” excerpts from a forthcoming royal book that makes explosive claims about their relationship.
The upcoming book, Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family, written by Tom Bower, alleges that Queen Camilla, 78, privately told a friend that Markle had “brainwashed” Harry during the couple’s long-running rift with the royal family.
According to the book, the Sussexes’ relationship also raised concerns for Prince William, 43, and Catherine, Princess of Wales, 44, who were reportedly worried that Harry was under Markle’s influence and that the couple’s whirlwind romance was moving too quickly

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, pictured in October 2018, have responded to what they call “deranged” excerpts from a forthcoming royal book that includes explosive allegations about the couple.

In the book, author Tom Bower claims Queen Camilla — pictured with Meghan Markle in May 2018 — once told a friend that the Duchess of Sussex had “brainwashed” Prince Harry.
Bower further alleges that tensions between the couples eventually escalated into a heated confrontation.
Responding to the book’s claims, however, a spokesperson for Harry, 41, and Markle, 44, told Page Six, “Mr. Bower’s commentary has long crossed the line from criticism into fixation. This is someone who has publicly stated, ‘The monarchy in fact depends on actually obliterating the Sussexes from our state of life,’ language that speaks for itself.”
The spokesperson added, “[Bower] has made a career out of constructing ever more elaborate theories about people he does not know and has never met. Those interested in facts will look elsewhere; those seeking deranged conspiracy and melodrama know exactly where to find him.”

The book also alleges that the relationship between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle caused concern for Prince WilliamCatherine, Princess of Wales

A spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle — pictured in November 2017 — told Page Six that the allegations amount to a “deranged conspiracy.”
Excerpts from the book published in The Times on Friday also claim that former Invictus Games Foundation chief Dominic Reid was concerned competitors were being overshadowed, suggesting the event had turned into “the Harry and Meghan show.”
The report further alleges poor attendance at the games and claims athletes and their families were being eclipsed by orchestrated photo opportunities.
Responding to that claim, however, a spokesperson for the Invictus Games Foundation told Page Six, “It is disappointing to see The Times give prominence to commentary that appears driven by a long-established agenda rather than a genuine understanding of the Invictus Games and the community it supports.”

Excerpts from the book published in The Times on Friday also made claims about the Invictus Games, where Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are pictured above attending the event in 2017.

One allegation claims the event suffered from poor attendance and suggests athletes and their families were overshadowed by orchestrated photo opportunities involving Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, who are pictured above at the Invictus Games in 2023.
“The Foundation exists to support the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans from around the world.”
They added, “Attempts to question the legitimacy of competitors or diminish the experiences of those living with both physical injuries and invisible wounds such as Post-traumatic stress disorder are deeply disrespectful to the men and women the Games were created for.”
“The focus should remain where it belongs — on the courage, recovery and camaraderie of those who have served.”
