Police Identify Baby Girl Abandoned in Store by Pregnant Mother

Law enforcement responded to reports of a baby, estimated to be between seven to nine months old, left alone in a business located at the 2000 block of Pacific Coast Highway in Lomita earlier this week.

Upon arrival, authorities were informed by store staff that the mother of the baby had entered the establishment and requested a taxi.

While a staff member arranged for a taxi, the woman proceeded to the restroom. Just as the vehicle arrived, the woman emerged from the bathroom, boarded the cab, and departed, leaving the young child behind in a shopping cart, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Earlier this week, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department received reports of a baby, estimated to be between seven to nine months old, abandoned in a business located at the 2000 block of Pacific Coast Highway in Lomita.

Responders took custody of the baby and entrusted her to the Department of Children and Family Services while initiating a search.

Shortly after, the Sheriff’s Office shared images of the infant and her mother on their social media platforms, appealing to the public for assistance in identification.

In a subsequent statement, the Sheriff’s Office confirmed detectives had identified both individuals and had discussions with family members.

Details regarding the baby and the pregnant mother, including their names, remain undisclosed by authorities at this time.

“Detectives engaged in discussions with family members of the abandoned infant, who provided identification for both the child and the biological mother. The investigation remains active. No further details are currently available,” the statement conveyed.
