Former Rep. Katie Porter’s bid for California governor has hit turbulence after her opponent, ex-Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, released a three-minute ad using her own words against her.
The spot features Porter’s unedited, on-camera meltdown during a CBS News California interview — a tense exchange in which she appeared combative, complained about having an “unhappy experience,” and attempted to walk off set.

Former California Rep. Katie Porter’s tense TV interview has gone viral — and her opponent is seizing the moment.
Antonio Villaraigosa’s campaign launched a three-minute ad, reportedly the first of its length in a modern California governor’s race, airing Thursday on CBS stations in the Sacramento market — the same network where the contentious interview originally took place.
Titled “In Katie Porter’s Own Words,” the spot ends with Villaraigosa’s voiceover declaring, “We need leaders who will solve hard problems and answer simple questions.”
According to the campaign, the ad aired twice Thursday — its only scheduled run — at a cost of roughly $20,000.
The awkward exchange between Porter and CBS News reporter Julie Watts, which first aired Monday, quickly spread online after Porter accused the journalist of being “unnecessarily argumentative.”
