The sheriff’s department investigating the suspected abduction of Nancy Guthrie has issued a new alert for a separate kidnapping suspect wanted just a few miles from the 84-year-old’s Arizona home.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department announced a notice for Coral Michelle Smith, a 40-year-old repeat offender wanted in connection with an unrelated kidnapping case located about seven miles from Guthrie’s residence in the Catalina Foothills.

Authorities say Smith, who has a lengthy criminal record, is accused of involvement in a kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon stemming from an incident on May 29 near the intersection of River Road and La Cholla Boulevard in Tucson.

The incident under investigation occurred about seven miles from where Nancy Guthrie—mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie—disappeared.

Pima County officials have urged the public to “be on the lookout” for the woman but have not released further details about the case.

Authorities also said there is no known connection between Smith and Savannah Guthrie’s mother, who vanished from her home in the early hours of February 1.

Smith has a prior criminal history in Pima County, including accusations of kidnapping, assault, robbery, and disorderly conduct, and has served four separate prison terms, according to court records. She was previously convicted of robbery in 2011, disorderly conduct and attempted vehicle theft in 2014, robbery in 2019, and criminal trespass in 2021.

Court records also indicate Smith was later convicted in separate cases, including attempted vehicle theft in 2022 and aggravated assault with physical injury in 2023.

In the 2019 case, records show she faced kidnapping and drug-related charges involving a victim under the age of 15; those charges were ultimately dismissed.

Smith has also used multiple aliases, including Corral Albright, Coral Albright-Smith, and “Under The Sea Smith,” according to local 13 News.

Police described her as 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 136 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes.

Authorities also noted identifying tattoos, including a smiley face and heart on her right ankle, a rose with flames on her right foot, and the phrase “love, life, family” on her left leg.

Savannah Guthrie is the daughter of Nancy Guthrie, who disappeared from her home in the early hours of February 1.
