Established in 1947 by reservist Major Bill Hendricks, Toys for Tots is a program administered by the United States Marine Corps Reserve, dedicated to providing toys to children from families facing financial challenges during the festive season. The program’s mission is to gather and distribute new, unwrapped toys to underprivileged children, ensuring they have a memorable Christmas.

As stated on their website, “The Foundation provides the leadership, funding, and support needed for successful annual toy collection and distribution campaigns.”

In 1997, the program unveiled a remarkable commercial, widely regarded as one of the most enchanting advertisements ever created.

Every Christmas, numerous people share this commercial, aspiring to spread the joy of the holiday season.

In the advertisement, a young boy holding a piece of paper approaches a Marine and inquires if he is Santa Claus.

The Marine, focused on his duties, remains motionless and appears to ignore the boy’s attempts at conversation.

Undeterred, the boy repeats his question and hands over the piece of paper, revealing it to be his Christmas wish list. He eagerly awaits the possibility of his wishes coming true during the festive season.

To the surprise and delight of everyone, the guard, without meeting the boy’s gaze, opens his hand and accepts the list.
