Dogs make exceptional companions in a variety of life’s adventures, be it family outings or the routines of daily living. They offer emotional support and can even lend a hand with tasks if trained with tricks.

Before welcoming a dog into a forever home, prospective owners often assess the dog’s physical appearance to ensure their well-being. However, appearances can be deceiving, as some dogs may not meet conventional expectations but possess a gentle nature and unwavering loyalty to their owners.

Such was the case with Beaux Tox, a yellow Labrador with distinctive facial features, who finally found a place to call home.

According to an April 2018 article published by Today, animal enthusiast Jamie Hulit was captivated the moment she laid eyes on a photo of the endearing dog. At that time, a friend informed her that Beaux, formerly known as Lucky, needed a new home.

Hulit wasted no time and expressed her desire to offer Beaux not just temporary foster care, but a lifelong home.

That very evening, she visited Beaux, who was 6 years old at the time, at his current location, only to discover a heartbreaking sight.

It was revealed that Beaux had spent over five years confined to a neglected backyard, receiving little attention from his previous owners. This neglect had taken a toll on his health, leaving him at a mere 42 pounds and infested with fleas. To compound matters, he was also afflicted with heartworm.

Be sure to read to the end of this article for the full video, where Beaux’s heartwarming story unfolds.

Hulit also shared additional insights with The Dodo to explain the origin of Beaux’s distinctive appearance. An MRI confirmed that his unique facial features have no bearing on his personality and are non-life-threatening.

Beaux’s compressed facial appearance is attributed to the limited space available in his mother’s womb, which she shared with six other puppies. Unfortunately, his unusual looks posed a challenge for the breeder when it came to finding him a suitable home, leading to him being given away for free. Eventually, he ended up in the backyard of the man from whom Hulit rescued him.

Local rescue organizations made valiant efforts to secure a new home for Beaux, placing him with various foster families in response to the unfavorable conditions he had endured with his initial owner. Regrettably, these attempts fell short, resulting in his return.

“At that point, I didn’t care about the severity of his potential illnesses… I just couldn’t bear the thought of him reentering the foster system only to be returned,” Hulit emphasized.

During the initial veterinary examination to assess his medical condition, the prognosis proved graver than expected. Dr. Jay Rydberg, the attending veterinarian, informed Hulit that Beaux had an uncertain chance of survival.

However, Hulit remained resolute and unwavering in her commitment to Beaux. Miraculously, Beaux endured a series of demanding medical procedures, despite losing hearing in his left ear due to ear mites and experiencing visual impairments. He now had a family that would cherish and care for him throughout his life.

“He’s brimming with vitality… and he has truly enriched our lives,” Hulit added.

How do you feel about this endearing dog who didn’t receive love from his former owners? Would you consider adopting a dog with a similar story if the opportunity arose? Share your thoughts and be sure to share this with your friends and family.
