This heart-wrenching story unfolded in the lives of María del Rosario Rodríguez and her son Mauricio Delgado, who were separated for an astonishing four decades.
According to a 2021 report by Subrayado, María del Rosario Rodríguez welcomed her first child, named Yamandú, into the world at Pereira Rossell Hospital in 1974.
Following their time at the hospital, Rodríguez made the decision to move to Lavalleja. When Yamandú was just ten months old, he fell ill and was subsequently admitted to a local healthcare facility.
Little did María del Rosario Rodríguez know that this would be the last time she would see her son for several decades, as she later claimed that he had been taken from her.
Even though they were separated for a long time, Rodríguez knew that he was still alive.
Eventually, the baby was adopted and given the name Mauricio Delgado. It wasn’t until 26 years later that he uncovered the truth about his origins when his adoptive mother provided documents confirming his adoption.
In an interview with the media, Delgado revealed that his childhood was typical, thanks to his adoptive parents who provided him with everything he needed. Nevertheless, a persistent question lingered in his mind: he yearned to discover his true origins and meet his biological parents.

“Mauricio Delgado sought assistance from the Mides Adoption Department, and it took them a dozen years to locate his biological mother.
After an extensive search, the mother and son were finally reunited on May 28, 2021, a staggering 46 years after he was taken from the health center.
“They took him from me, as if I were a dog, just as puppies are separated,” Rodríguez shared with the outlet.
During the interview, Rodríguez expressed that, despite the long separation, her son would always be her baby. While she was thrilled to reunite with him, she lamented that she had missed out on hearing Delgado say “mama” for the first time.
In a video posted on the outlet’s Instagram account, Rodríguez and Delgado appeared joyous, sharing a heartfelt hug. In some of the clips, they were seen holding hands, symbolizing the decades-long connection they had missed.”
