Michelle Obama disclosed that she is currently in therapy after she and her husband, Barack Obama, addressed and denied divorce rumors.
She shared on Jay Shetty’s “On Purpose” podcast that she sought professional help as she navigates a new stage in her life.
“At this point in my life, I’m in therapy because I’m going through a transition,” she said during the April 28 episode.
Michelle Obama shared that she is in therapy following her and Barack Obama’s dismissal of divorce rumors.
“I’m 60 years old. I’ve completed a difficult chapter of my life with my family still whole. I’m now an empty nester. My daughters have — you know, they’ve moved on,” said Michelle, who shares daughters Malia, 26, and Sasha, 23, with the former president.
The Becoming author, 61, explained that with both daughters out of the house and she and Barack, 63, no longer serving in public roles, she now finds herself in a place where “every choice” is “entirely” her own.
“I no longer have the excuse of saying, ‘My kids need this,’ or ‘My husband needs that,’ or ‘The country needs that,’” she said.
“I’ve completed a very challenging period in my life with my family still together. I’m an empty nester now. My daughters are — you know, they’ve taken off,” Michelle said.

“So, I’m getting a tune-up for this next phase because I believe it’s a completely new chapter in my life. And now I have the wisdom to know — let me get some coaching while I’m navigating it,” Michelle added.
Rumors of trouble in the Obamas’ relationship began when Michelle stepped out of the public spotlight leading up to President Trump’s inauguration in January.
She missed the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter on January 9 and also chose not to attend Trump’s inauguration on January 20.
Barack attended both events alone.

At the time, Page Six exclusively reported that the “IMO” podcast co-host was on an “extended holiday vacation” in Hawaii.
Sources also informed us that Michelle had been “checked out” of Washington, DC life ever since their family left the White House in 2017.
Barack put an end to the divorce rumors by sharing a heartfelt birthday message to the “love of [his] life” in January, followed by a sweet Valentine’s Day selfie with Michelle in February.

Michelle also took a moment to dismiss the baseless rumors about her three-decade-long marriage.
“That’s the thing we, as women, struggle with — disappointing people,” she said on Sophia Bush’s Work in Progress podcast on April 9.
“People couldn’t even imagine that I was making a choice for myself, so they assumed that my husband and I were getting divorced.”
Michelle laughed off the notion of ending her marriage and mocked the idea that she couldn’t possibly be “a grown woman just making decisions for herself.”
