Christine Quinn is going to get married, but she wishes for something special for her wedding day. she wanted her 89-year-old grandmother, Nana Betty, to be a bridesmaid at her wedding, she indeed asked her grandmother but she was never sure that she will do it. The amazing grandmother didn’t want to let down her granddaughter on her big day but she turned out to be the life of the party!
“She had the entire wedding party laughing with her words of wisdom and funny comments throughout the day,” Quinn, who enjoys a close friendship with her grandmother, told Huffpost. “Nana got on the party bus with the rest of the wedding party instead of ‘going home to rest’ but did not tell my mom (her daughter). She also danced the entire night away, including an adorable moment when she and my husband’s grandmother, Bellsie, danced together. It was amazing.”
“You’re only as old as you feel and I feel young today,” Nana Betty told Quinn. We’ll all grow old, but we don’t necessarily have to grow up!
Christine and Patrick Quinn (who, by chance, share the same surname) got married on May 2 in Plymouth Meeting, PA.
Christine had a special someone standing by her side that day. It was her grandmother, Betty — or, as everyone knows her, Nana Betty. On the big day, she stood proudly as one of her granddaughter’s four bridesmaids, in a beautiful, dark purple dress.
Christine loves her grandma dearly, and considers Nana Betty to be one of her closest “friends.”
“While she doesn’t live that close, we have continually made it a point to spend as much time together as possible,” she told The Huffington Post. “She just has an amazing sense of humor and outlook on life that I strive to emulate every day. Everyone loves her.”
Nana Betty has never liked being the center of attention; thus, Christine had not expected her to agree to come on board as a bridesmaid.
“She asked me about 10 times, ‘Are you sure?’ and ‘Why would you want an old lady in your bridal party?'” said Christine. “A few times she even said, ‘All of your bridesmaids are young and pretty, why would you want me?’ “
Thankfully, Nana Betty agreed in the end. “She had the entire wedding party laughing with her words of wisdom and funny comments throughout the day,” said Christine.
When the ceremony ended, Nana hopped on the party bus with the rest of the guests, instead of “going home to rest.” According to Christine, she danced through the night and even had a wonderful time dancing with the groom’s grandmother, Bellsie.
