Kathy Griffin revealed that she unexpectedly fell in love with a man more than four decades younger than her after her divorce from Randy Bick.
The 65-year-old comedian opened up about the private romance, sharing that she connected with a 23-year-old who made her feel genuinely seen and understood.
According to Griffin, the significant age difference played a role in their dynamic. Writing in a personal essay for The Cut, published Wednesday, she explained that his generation brought a different perspective than men closer to her age.
“I accidentally fell in love with a 23-year-old,” Griffin wrote. “Because of his age, he didn’t have the usual sexism, misogyny, and biases that guys my age tend to have.”

Griffin noted that the two simply “clicked,” something she described as extremely rare for her.
Despite their strong bond, she said she ultimately had to “set him free,” even though he told her he didn’t want children and believed he could be with her forever.
“I really was in love with him,” Griffin emphasized. “He touched my heart.”
Reflecting on their time together, she explained that they decided to give the relationship a chance, knowing it might not last. “We gave it a shot anyway, and we both went with it for a while, and then it came time to go,” she said. “He made me feel sexy and special and smart and funny. It had a lot of the elements of what I think would’ve made a real, lasting relationship.”
Griffin also openly referred to herself as a “cougar,” revealing that she hasn’t dated men her own age since her 30s.
However, Griffin made it clear she has no regrets about dating much younger men. In her essay, she unapologetically wrote, “I can’t let this bangin’ body go to waste.”
She explained that younger men are the ones who consistently pursue her. “I’ve only been asked out by younger guys,” Griffin said. “I kind of am a cougar, which to me just means you have the freedom to choose the person that you want, as opposed to the age bracket that society tells you is the only option for you.”
Griffin also noted that she has always been upfront about her age on dating apps. “I put 64 on my profile, and when I went on those dates, every one of them was at least 20 years younger,” she shared. “What am I gonna do? I can’t let this bangin’ body go to waste.”
The comedian finalized her divorce from Bick — who is 18 years younger than her — in January..
