Kanye West’s fans erupted into angry chants after the rapper arrived over 40 minutes late to his Shanghai concert, attended by 70,000 people.
Over the weekend, the artist—now known simply as Ye—was met with loud demands for refunds from frustrated attendees, according to the Global Times.
A fan-recorded clip shared on X captures thousands of fans chanting for refunds as the “Jesus Walks” rapper’s performance was overshadowed by delays and numerous technical issues.
“I’ve been a Kanye West fan since my teenage years. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy opened my ears to new sounds in music,” one fan shared on X, referring to West’s 2010 album.
“Getting tickets for his Shanghai show was tough, but I managed to get one. I was so hyped—I couldn’t even sleep the night before. But honestly, it was the worst concert I’ve ever attended. @kanyewest, you can do better.”
In a follow-up post, the frustrated fan criticized Kanye’s choice to tour.
“@kanyewest, you shouldn’t be touring. It’s just not for you. Stick to the studio—drop surprise albums and be that artist. I’m one of your biggest supporters when it comes to most of your work. But by pretending you’re a performer, you’re wasting people’s time, excitement, and money,” they wrote.
So I’ve been a fan of Kanye West since I was a teen. MBDTF opened my ears to the sonics in music. Was hard to get tix for him in Shanghai but got it. Was hyped af. Couldn’t even sleep night before. But. Worst concert I’ve ever been to. @kanyewest u can be better pic.twitter.com/3CbPd0BO29

In another series of posts, the fan accused the 24-time Grammy winner of lip-syncing.
“Mostly lip-syncing. His microphone must have been on less than 20% of the time,” he wrote on X, adding that West left the stage for over 20 minutes during the encore.
“For the encore, he disappeared for more than 20 minutes while tracks like ‘Wolves’ played without him in sight,” he continued. “I could have just played your music at home, man. Came to see you perform????”

During his brief time onstage, fans reported that West faced numerous technical problems, causing the DJ to restart several songs.
After the show—West’s first since September 2024—one concertgoer said they had “never seen such a poorly organized concert,” calling it the “worst concert ever.”

On Saturday night, event promoter StellarAmberGroup posted on China’s social media platform Sina Weibo, explaining that heavy rainfall prevented some visuals from being executed as planned, which impacted the show’s production.
“However, for this long-awaited return after 17 years, Ye’s team insisted on prioritizing artistic integrity. After emergency adjustments, the show was delayed to ensure the best possible experience and to minimize the disappointment for the audience,” the statement read.
