It turns out there really was a “monster” under the bed.
A Kansas babysitter got a terrifying surprise Monday night when she discovered a grown man hiding beneath a child’s bed while checking for monsters, authorities said.
According to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office, the woman was putting the children to bed just outside Great Bend around 10:30 p.m. when one of them mentioned a “monster” lurking in the room
As the babysitter attempted to reassure the child, she made a shocking discovery.
Law enforcement identified the suspect as 27-year-old Martin Villalobos Jr., who was hiding under the bed.
A struggle broke out between Villalobos and the babysitter before he fled the house, according to the sheriff’s office.
Amid the chaos, one of the children was knocked over.
The next morning, sheriff’s deputies spotted Villalobos in the area and took him into custody after a brief foot chase.
Authorities revealed that Villalobos had previously lived at the home but was banned from the property due to an abuse order.
Authorities did not disclose his connection to the children or the home’s residents.
He faces multiple charges, including aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, child endangerment, and felony obstruction of law enforcement.
Additionally, he is charged with violating a protection order and remains in custody on a $500,000 bail.
