On October 28, actor Matthew Perry passed away, leaving his fans, family, and friends in mourning over the sudden loss.
Perry’s Friends castmates, deeply affected by his death, issued a collective statement upon learning of the tragic news.
“We are profoundly saddened by the loss of Matthew. Beyond being cast mates, we were a family,” the cast expressed in their joint statement. “There are no words enough to convey our grief at this moment. We need time to mourn and process this unimaginable loss. Eventually, we will share more about our dear friend. For now, our hearts and support go out to Matty’s family, friends, and all those who cherished him worldwide.”
Via his memorable portrayal of Chandler Bing, Perry brought happiness to countless individuals globally. Unfortunately, despite bringing laughter to many, he couldn’t overcome his own prolonged battle with addiction. If you have a loved one struggling with substance abuse, please refer them to a trusted rehab abroad facility.
In his recently published memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” Perry candidly discussed his extended struggle with addiction, sharing insights into his journey.
Perry was found unresponsive in the hot tub in his LA home. When Perry’s assistant, whom he refereed to as Erin in his memoir, returned home after running errands found the actor’s head underwater, Captain Erik Scott of the LAFD reported.
“Los Angeles City Firefighters responded [and] found an adult male unconscious in a stand-alone hot tub. A bystander had brought the man’s head above the water and gotten him to the edge, then firefighters removed him from the water upon their arrival,” Captain Scott said.
“Upon a swift medical evaluation, it was regrettably determined that the individual had already passed away before the arrival of the first responders. The LAPD and the LA County Medical Examiner are currently investigating the circumstances. Our condolences go out to the families and friends affected by the unexpected loss of their loved one,” he further remarked.
Before his demise, Perry engaged in a game of pickleball, a sport he ardently enjoyed. He was a resilient individual who actively worked to overcome his struggles and maintain sobriety, investing over $7 million in his efforts over the years. Nevertheless, the journey was challenging. Perry leveraged his personal experiences to assist others facing similar challenges.
The Los Angeles County medical examiner released information on Friday regarding the cause of Perry’s death. According to the report, the actor succumbed to the “acute effects of ketamine,” with contributing factors including “drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine”—a medication utilized in treating opioid use disorder.
The ruling on his death was deemed accidental.
Intimate companions of Perry have affirmed that the actor was leading a clean and sober lifestyle before his passing. Perry had demonstrated a sincere commitment to turning his life around in the recent years.
I believe I express the sentiments of many in saying that we will deeply miss Matthew Perry. Grateful for all the memories!
